Bill Gurley on Open Source

I usually post Bill Gurley’s Above the Crowd column here, and I will with the latest as well. It’s all about his take on the open source movement. Actually, I’m a little disappointed in the column, as I don’t think it says anything particularly new. It takes the “hey, open source works and has potential as a business model” take, which most everybody knew already. The second page talks about extending the model a little (with things like Netscape’s Open Directory – which I’m not so sure is a complete success). It’s not that the article is bad, it’s certainly worth reading. I just usually expect his columns to read a little deeper into matters, and this one seems fairly straight forward. Unless I’m missing something…
