"I don't care if trolls make those comments, because they are sad and pathetic, and easily dismissed."
Why are you so down on yourself?
The only people using "the r word" are the people complaining about it being used, or explaining its actual meaning to the initial users multiple times.
Ah, irony..
"...more the reducing a person to a single superficial characteristic."
You're doing that to yourself quite well on your own, in my opinion. I understand what you are saying but heartily disagree. The word means what it means, regardless of what you think. It will either flourish or die as part of the language - but with you using it so much yourself, there isn't much chance of it dying in our language any time soon.
OMG a miniature teacup with a tinier storm in it! I'm probably going to be equally offended by your choice of font.
Seriously, get over it. It's like saying men should be offended because they may not like someone being called a d*ckhead.
The original meaning doesn't even refer to people. Ever heard of "fire retardant material" ? You guys having a go at them too ?
From dictionary.com :
to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.); hinder or impede.
I get the feeling the judge wanted to add "and if the plaintiff is acting like an ass, you pound them in writing."
I must admit, being from Australia and not really knowing what the 9th district etc all mean relative to one another can make it hard to follow as well. Whilst I understand and appreciate Mike's exhortations to read the entire thing, I'd have definitely benefited from a layman's perspective. That said, my take is the same as above.
The SMH put something out that was balanced ? Crikey.
No, that's contrary to what I understand an 'open' site to be .. much as all the ACs using their anonymity is annoying, they're entitled to do it.
Besides .. how else could we see how much the stupid burns ?
When I get my desire HD I might just start on one..
It would make sense if half the commenters here are from people using the hbgary persona software .. :)
Angry Puppy - hate to tell you this but the last paper book I borrowed from the library was printed about 11 years ago.
The whole problem is that a library can now buy an ebook from X-1 of X places and not have to pay a license fee. Harper Collins have basically added an additional, ridiculous annual fee for the simple fact that they have shareholders. Technically there's no reason for it aside from greed.
From the explanation on the boycott site:
It's true that library materials don't have an unlimited shelf-life, though many libraries still circulate books that are well over a hundred years old.
You read the article carefully, didn't you ? Nobody suggested that Blingville had anything to do with facebook. In fact, if it doesn't, that's a positive.
No, it's been perverted quite effectively already.
Good idea, Mike. I think it's great. Weekend content is always good.
Anonymous coward: "tl;dr so instead I rewrote the article as a comment ?"
Did anyone else read the first word in the title as vuvuzela ?
If they block wikileaks I guess I ditch my twitter account ..
Just to spite them I downloaded the insurance file and went to a mirror .. I had no trouble finding it and reading some.
You're right, Mike - taking it offline has made no difference. It's still a eral turd that it's gone though.
Hey Matt, what if Wikileaks reads your threats and assumes you're going to harm it and decides to get you knocked off. That'd be OK with you, wouldn't it. After all this isn't some 80s kids cartoon. Here you are, after all using a registered account, suggesting someone get murdered, and thinking that's completely OK because this person has told the truth. So tell us the truth Matt, would you be OK with Wikileaks getting you killed because you're carrying on like an arsehat - or, like the US government, crying foul ?
Again, I suspect the latter.
Actually Matt, no. G Thompson made perfect sense. The US government uses FUD to control the populace. If they run a website that is not liked, ICE is used to take it over. If they don't like the person, they simply give the media press releases to copy and paste that make the person seem worse than Satan.
If the Australian government took a german national based on name only, got the wrong person, tortured them for a while then dumped them in Luxembourg (from memory), I would like to know. I would be disgusted with my government. You, however are following the government line, and asking for the public face of wikileaks to be what .. brutally murdered .. assassinated, whatever. For telling you a fact you didn't like.
Based on that, I don't want to be the someone that tells you the sky is blue when your government has told you it is grey.
I for one, also agree with the terrorist tag - however like many things, the US seems to have it backwards - the government is the terrorist. Any other country, it's the people. I could go on but I assume you're not going to listen to what I say, or consider it rationally.
Re: Re:
Given police use phone readers it's quite possibly a scary prospect. I haven't seen the data but it it's recording enough data to triangulate (or better) your position and storing it for far longer than is remotely necessary: If you move around a lot there'll be a ton of useless data but if you stay in the one area there will be a lot of repeated data. That apple has quietly tried to patent it certainly makes it seem questionable.
It's definitely data that needs backing up and merging data from more than one device into one set of data.
Yep, move along, nothing to see here. Imagine if your location data was on the PSN..
