  And for all we know, that is what is going on, in private, where it belongs. However, in public, they are going after the school, which violated their daughters right to privacy.

  Those CD's usually contain the full body of the author's work as published by Baen, up to that point.
  
  In the case of one of John Ringo's books (There will be dragons) it included an audio book version of the story, as well.

  Not all of his music is given away for free. He's got a good attempt going, though. Give away some of it, hope people will pay for more of it, and give shows where you know people will show up.

  I'm sure not all publishers were part of this lobby...

  Baen books has been giving away their books to the handicapped for free, with the assistance of a group called ReadAssist.

  I'm pretty sure that they've been doing it since longer than last November, as I thought I'd originally read about it in '07, but it's been a while since I actually looked at the page.

  At least one of their authors (Mercedes Lackey) has seen an increase in her NON Baen books since she put up several of her titles, which leads her to conclude that the free library has increased her sales...

  And it's working, too. I know there are several Baen authors that I've gone out and bought copies of there books hardcover after reading them online.
  Not all of them, but several of them.
  
  I've gotten friends hooked on new authors via Baen's crack^h^h^h Free Library too.

  You can get a lot of music (not all of it, and not all genres) at yourmusic.com. You can sign up and once a month they'll send you a CD that you've got queued up. I used 'em for a while to replace some of my older CDs. Costs $5.99/month, no charge for shipping.

  Write to the company who's game you purchased, and inform them of this fact.
  
  Point out that due to your experiences, you won't be buying any of their games again, if they continue to use the Starforce copy protection.
  
  Tell them that you will advise your friend and family members to not purchase any of them either.
  
  Be polite in your letter. Use punctuation. Use proper spelling. BE PROFESSIONAL.
  
  Mail the letter. Don't EMAIL the letter. Companies tend to take more seriously those who put forth the effort needed to physically send a letter letter, rather than just simply bitch in email.
  
  Will it change your current experience? No. But it may prompt the company to stop using Starforce.

  I haven't had a visit from a Charter Communications tech to change my programming ni 5 years. Any time they've changed my program access (2-3 in the last 3 years alone) its been done remotely. Most cable companies that offer internet service have IP enabled boxes. There is no need to send a tech out unless there is a problem with the box....

  No, he was investigating it. I don't have the links handy, but I recall seeing a few articles on CNet and Slashdot about it. Something about how some of his people went out and bought some of the DMR protected CD's a week after Sony-BMG recalled them.
  
  Haven't seen anything recently.
