A number of companies have been working on a TOR based internet where no on entity controls any part of the internet. In addition, there are block chain prototypes that can validate traffic. Example: Brave is including Tor and block chain web addresses.

Having looked into all the data from breaches in the last 20 years, companies know more about you than you think. They know your addresses, your fetlife activities, friends (from shared IP addresses), your phone numbers, sometimes your dark secrets(passwords). Targeted advertising is just the tip. They have already have your data from Facebook, ADP salary histories, cookies, breaches, credit reports and the new consumer credit reports. Nothing is being protected, that's why they're shocked when we get mad about targeted advertising. "If only they only knew." - Corporations The scarier part is governments getting a hold of aggregated and parsed data. If you think targeted advertising is a problem wait till you see the enforcement of thought crimes.

It's not solved for many, since they have agreements that make their service to only one available. You end up just get gouged on your internet bill instead of TV.
How it should have ended
