I could see some of them thinking that perhaps, but by not even trying in fear that something like that might happen they're choosing the path of cowardice and effectively signalling that they're not the ones calling the shots in what is supposedly their court, taking a potential outcome and turning it into reality.
Judges across the entire US need to take notes from this judge and start following suit. No benefit of the doubt that the government just forgot a previous ruling, no letting them act like they have legal standing or the law is on their side, simply telling them to their face that a judge has already ruled against them and if they continue to pretend otherwise they'll be removed from the court willingly or not.
And unless Cassidy is far stupider than I think he is, you have to believe he isn’t going to let Lucy pull the football away at the last moment for a second time. Cassidy voted to confirm Kennedy, so yes, I absolutely, 100% believe he's stupid enough to fall for the 'I'm a real doctor who believes in real science, all that other stuff will have no impact on my ability to act professional and in accordance with real medical science' lie again.
I’m not sure I agree here. I mean, there are measures that Meta and other companies can adopt to make their products more or less addicting (ie: infinite scroll) Oh absolutely, there's just one tiny problem... And it gets worse. Some of the most damaging evidence in both trials came from internal company documents where employees raised concerns about safety risks and discussed tradeoffs. These were played up in the media (and the courtroom) as “smoking guns.” But that means no company is going to allow anyone to raise concerns ever again. That’s very, very bad. When internal discussions by staff about problems, solutions and trade-offs are used against the company then the incentive is to not have those discussions, and if you can't even talk about problems solving them becomes effectively a non-starter.
The kicker about people cheering this on because fuck Meta/Google/TikTok is that they're cheering on those companies winning. Sure they lost the trials but as the article rightly notes several times if this is allowed to stand Meta and Google can afford to pay the resulting legal fees. Their competitors whether current or potential on the other hand can not, which means if anything these rulings just cemented those company's positions in the marketplace by ensuring that no-one can possibly unseat them on top of threatening encryption and heavily incentivizing companies against even talking about potential problems.
I have quite literally watched one video that was commenting on another where an absolutely vile woman was dancing in joy at the idea of dead children in Iran and that general area of the globe because she thought it was a sign that Jesus' second coming was just around the corner.
The administration claims to be worried about cybersecurity, but then goes out of its way to ensure domestic telecoms see no meaningful oversight whatsoever. Ah but don't you see, if a problem or exploited vulnerability is never reported because the company buries it to protect their profits then did it ever really happen or exist?
... what? Where in the world did you get that from?
It depends on what qualifications you're looking for, when it comes to the cabinet it's pretty clear that the only qualification Trump considered this time around was unquestioning and absolute loyalty to him.
It’s this sort of sloppy arrogance that’s going to continue to derail some of the worst things this administration wants to do. A judge whining that the regime is ignoring a court order or getting upset that the regime outright violated another court order isn't 'derailing' the regime's actions because unless I missed something the people that were deported are still gone and there's nothing in place to stop them from doing it again. If judges want to stop being laughingstocks and showing just how impotent the US legal system really is then they need to start throwing people in cells for contempt of court, until some actual penalties are handed out and enforced the regime will rightly continue to believe that they can ignore any and all legal rulings or orders levied against them.
If you don't like the public at large mocking you and pointing out that you're a blithering, racist buffoon then maybe try not being those things, and if that's not in the cards stay away from jobs where you'll be in the public eye for your actions.
As much as I detest AI at this point I'm pretty sure I'd consider putting AI in charge of the US government as an improvement because AI at least isn't inherently cruel, monumentally stupid and considers both of the previous traits as things to be proud of.
Damnit, my bad everyone, I recently left a comment saying the Fifth Circuit was the second most openly corrupt court in the US and apparently they took that as a challenge.
Every accusation a confession, every self-given label a rejection of. Or to put it in a more verbose form: If you want to know what a MAGAt is doing, has done, or is thinking of doing you merely have to listen to what they are accusing others of.
A warrant requirement to surveil someone otherwise or trawl through their data is only a problem if you have no credible evidence that would hold up in court to justify a warrant so they are really telling on themselves when they act like following the constitution is an unreasonable and overly burdensome requirement.
Homan told CNN on Sunday that the move is about “helping TSA do their mission and get the American public through that airport as quick as they can while adhering to all the security guidelines and the protocols.” ... Which I'm sure they'll do just as well as they have following the laws and respecting the legal and constitutional rights of those they interact with outside of airports.
The republican party, which controls every aspect of government completely has no way of preventing this. I mean, other than sign on to any of the several bills(I believe I heard four) that I believe the dems have proposed that would fund the TSA but wouldn't throw even more money at the US gestapo, but since the Dear Leader has given them their orders not to do so because he's trying to use this self-inflicted problem to force the dems to cave and vote for the SAVE act that's certainly not in the cards...
Trump regime: 'Okay the house has been burned to the ground, the people that were in it are all charred bodies and we're keeping the 'Fire is actually super healthy for the human body'-pyromaniac who lit the house on fire as the head of the fire department, but we're putting someone in place to advise that he not burn the next house down so problem solved and stop blaming us for putting him in charge of the fire department to begin with!'
If the press outlets really wanted to twist the knife when it goes to the US supreme court and should they side with the first amendment over the regime it would be just perfect if they took that win and published an open statement that they'll keep it in mind for later but currently there's no point in sending reporters to an event where they'll just be lied to any time they ask a question.
Funny thing about fascist regimes, not even die-hard loyalists are safe
Carr may be willing to openly ignore the law and constitutions while exercising powers he doesn't have like his boss Trump but what he might want to keep in mind is that to Trump everyone is expendable but him, so just because he's in Trump's good graces currently for his hypocritical censorship tactics doesn't mean he won't be thrown under the bus the second it becomes politically beneficial.
