From the Party of Law and Order comes: 'Drop those thousands of criminal cases, we've got brown people to round up!'
The real issue now is what the New York Times plans to do about this. A standard correction noting a few missing details won’t cut it. The entire premise of the article — that this company represents the exciting realization of AI’s business potential — is nonsense. Every element of the narrative is tainted: the growth story is built on deceptive marketing, the product claims are contradicted by the FDA and the manufacturers of the actual drugs, the “$1.8 billion” figure is a projection with no valuation to back it up, and the company is currently facing legal action on multiple fronts. The entire article should be retracted. Hey now that's unreasonable, if the New York Times retracts the scam they fell for they might have to do some actual journalism going forward rather than just printing whatever someone hands them and that requires way more work which means it would be less profitable.
A federal judge has ruled that President Trump’s executive order last year defunding PBS and NPR violated the First Amendment, and has issued a permanent injunction insisting that executive branch agencies cannot enforce it. But the ruling may come too late to save what was left of U.S public media. It took them a bloody year to get around to deciding that a president doesn't get to just cut funding to a program because he doesn't like it? Well done your honor, I'm sure the corpse will be positively thrilled that you declared that it's murder was against the law a year after the knives were stuck in.
A federal judge in California found on Wednesday that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials had violated a previous order regarding warrantless arrests, and ordered agents operating in her judicial district to fully document their reasons for making any future stops. If your response as a judge to someone blatantly violating your last order is to shake your finger at them and tell them that while you're not handing out any penalties you are telling them to document how they're violating your order going forward all you're showing is how impotent you and by extension the legal system is. It's hardly a surprise that the regime feels so confident and safe in flipping off judges across the country when judges bend over backwards to show that they, and again by extension the legal system deserve the contempt and disdain they're getting.
I mean logically it should but to date that one only seems to work when it comes to those tasked with upholding the law.
If they're worried about how they're going to explain something to their kids I'm pretty sure 'What costume was that person wearing and why were they wearing it? would be a hell of a lot easier as a parent to explain than 'When the regime took over and started arresting protestors which side were you on?'
The ultimate kicker of course is that if it turns out Jesus is real and this is enough to drag his ass back down to earth I can't imagine he'd be too thrilled by the people willing to see an entire part of the globe burn just to get his attention. (The penultimate kicker is that if Jesus did come back ICE would ship his brown-skinned ass out of the US in a heartbeat and his loudest 'supporters' would be laughing and cheering on the deportation of the 'woke lib' who didn't get the memo that compassion and empathy are weaknesses the entire time it happened)
And the bill is sneaky about it: it includes a provision requiring that incorporated standards be made “publicly accessible online,” which the bill’s supporters point to as proof of their commitment to transparency. " ...You hadn't exactly gone out of your way to call attention to them had you? I mean like actually telling anyone or anything.' 'But the plans were on display...' 'On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.' 'That's the display department.' 'With a torch.' 'Ah, well the lights had probably gone.' 'So had the stairs.' 'But look you found the notice didn't you?' 'Yes,' said Arthur, 'yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of The Leopard".' -Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Douglas Adams.
Every Trump toady is sure that no matter what happened to their predecessor(s), no matter how wet the metaphorical blood on their seat still is when they take it they are special, their face is not and will never be on the menu because unlike all those other meals they understand that all they need to do is be subservient and loyal enough and they'll be safe from the leopards... ... And it never stops being funny when they inevitably find out how wrong they are and that there is in fact only one face not on the menu and it's not theirs.
Sometimes what someone doesn't say tells you more about what they think that what they do say. The US supreme court said the fifth circuit got it wrong and to apply a different standard. The fifth circuit flipped the supreme court the bird and refused to do so, ruling the same as they did before. Rather than try to correct them again the supreme court decided to wash their hands of the whole thing, not only signalling that they support the fifth circuit's ruling but that they also don't mind being openly mocked by said circuit who clearly believes that orders by the US supreme court are entirely optional and can be safely ignored if desired.
The latest Pew Research Center survey, conducted Jan. 20-26, 2026, finds that most White evangelicals (69%) approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president. And a majority (58%) say they support all or most of his plans and policies. Even setting aside everything else I can think of no more damning statistic and reason to avoid like the plague US evangelicals and their religion than their steadfast and continued support of Trump because if that is the sort of person they think is 'doing the lord's work' then there is something horrifically wrong with them and their religion.
Yes indeed, I cannot possibly imagine why states might have a vested interest in treated a practice with a history of being both scientifically fraudulent and demonstrably harmful differently than practices that aren't those things... As for 'this helps everyone because it gives the greenlight to psychological torture and actual therapists affirming someone's sexuality' even setting aside the impending harms from the former if you seriously think that this SCOTUS can't and won't ignore their own ruling should a case land in front of them regarding the latter I've got an amazing bridge to sell you.
And yet politicians across the spectrum continue to treat Haidt’s book like scripture, despite an overwhelming expert consensus that his claims don’t hold up. They continue to hold it up as true because they want it to be true. Because 'It's all social media's fault, be afraid and give us more power' is much easier and profitable(both financial and politically) than telling parents to actually act like parents by talking to their kids about what they might run into online and how to handle it, setting boundaries if needed and separately admitting that mental health issues are real, that extreme stresses in kids and adults might have a very justified reason to exist in the current climate and that actually productive steps need to be taken to help people.
Personally I can't imagine why people aren't lining up for the job, I mean who wouldn't want to sign up for a job where you'll be blamed when things go wrong and turned into a scapegoat by your boss and boss' boss , both of which refuses to accept any personal responsibility and neither of which care enough about the lives of other enough to stop making things worse and getting people maimed and killed?
Biden Administration: Hey some of this stuff seems to be in violation of your stated rules and might be literally putting lives in danger, no pressure but would you mind looking into that? Zuckerberg: Government censorship! No more I say, no more will I stand for the government telling me what I can and cannot have on my platform, I support free speech and will fight to the death for it! Five minutes after the Trump Regime takes over, shortly after Trump threatens to jail Zuckerberg if he doesn't censor what he's told to: Zuckerberg: So I've already got a team ready and willing to take down anything that you want me to, just say the word.
The problem people like Weiss keep running face-first into is that there isn't a market for Fox-lite. The people who want to watch the propaganda channel that is Fox already watch Fox, and the people who weren't watching Fox already aren't going to be interested in what is essentially a (currently) watered down version of Fox, they'll just leave, as the numbers are showing.
As damning as the settlement's terms actually are to the narrative the various MAGAt outlets are pushing given MAGA is a post-truth cult where what they want to believe matters more than demonstrable reality they arguably didn't even need the settlement, they could have just pointed to the Supreme Court ruling and declared that in fact they won that one and the overwhelming majority of cult members would have accepted that claim without hesitation.
Setting aside the issue of wading through the massive piles of responses of varying levels of useful the next step after that would still involve an internal discussion about the issues raised and how/if to address them, going right back to 'If you discuss problems then that can and will be used against you'.
... they said anonymously on an open-to-the-public platform that would almost certainly not exist without 230 making it legally viable to host user submitted content without extensive and expensive pre-vetting.
What you consider an existential threat says a lot about you
When your entire cult is built upon lies there is no greater threat than someone telling the truth.
