This reminds me of when seatbelts started getting required in the 70's.
People were not using seatbelts while driving or as passengers. Air bags didn't exist yet. I don't think there were laws requiring people to use them yet. Kids didn't use booster seats.
Some car makers started putting in sensors that wouldn't let the car start unless you were buckled in. Another had something attached to the door that moved up to your shoulder after you closed the door.
People would leave the belt clicked and sit on top of it. Some figured out a way to slide out of it after starting. Some disabled the sensors however they could.
Now we have airbags and a good portion of the population wears seatbelts. Kids and grand kids admonish their elders to wear them. They always wear the seatbelts. And cars no longer have ignition locks on seatbelt use. Just the buzzer that tells you you're not wearing one.
This will happen to texting/cell phone use too....
There was a bill in the NH legislature proposing requirements for seatbelts on motorcycles.
When you crash on a motorcycle, the last thing you want is to be strapped to it.
There was a similar bill for Farm tractors. A farmer friend of mine said if it has a cab/roll cage, you want it. If it doesn't, a seatbelt is death as the tractor rolls over on you.
I sing the Log song to my kids often (12 weeks and 3 years).
I gave my nephew (2nd grade) a log and he got more excited about it then any of his other toys. Of course, he knew it was a joke :-)
IMO the whole point of the Log song is make you realize just because the advertising is good, doesn't mean the product is. If you push it right, kids will want it. My nephew wants to buy anything "As seen on TV".
Sony hasn't been the only source for devices that do X for awhile (think betamax). Once, they had the coolest electronics (walkman, discman, etc). They've created technologies that no one else has adopted for various reasons: memory sticks, MD.
But I can buy a stereo, portable CD (cassette), laptop, MP3 player, car stereo from a number of other vendors.
The only things I can think of as sony exclusives are the artists on Sony Records, Sony movie DVDs, and Playstation.
I don't have to buy it from Sony. I bought from Sony in the past because their stuff was elegant and worked well. Apple & Sony have lots in common in design.
This root kit is an ugly scar and it signals a move away from elegent design which is the whole reason to buy Sony in the 1st place.

Common sense isn't common.
They work in a timely manner
When I was at an ISP, we had pagers. We could opt for a two way also.
One person could not receive the two way pagers so he had to use a one way.
Cell phones? How about 24 hour delays in delivery? We had a 15 minute response window. Missed calls got escalated up the management chain.
