If Mike Masnick was really trying to control our thoughts there would be no comments here. What I'm seeing here is a lot of debate on the issue. Other people are asked to state their rebuttals, as you were.
If you want you can go find another website that states opinions that are the exact opposite. Those of us who read Tech Dirt like it the way it is.
Go start your own website and spout your own opinions. I'm sure you would find followers who like it too.
I may be wrong about this but I'm under the impression that if someone circulates a petition and that petition gets enough signatures then they can give it to their congressional representative and the representative is required to introduce this to congress and try to pass it as law. If this is true why couldn't we petition the government to repeal the DMCA and stop all this nonsense? What would it take for people to force them to do this?
In the early days I couldn't believe Internet Explorer was such garbage compared to Netscape. Then I tried Netscape 6 and I couldn't believe how slow it was compared to Internet explorer 5.
My bank does too. At first they warned me that it might not but it does. I'm dual booting with Ubuntu Linux and it works there too. Plus there are a ton of extensions that you can use with Firefox. Use Firefox people. It's awesome.
I use Firefox for every website I ever go to. I can even do Microsoft Update on it. I use IETab. Plus I use NoScript and no Java script baddies can get in. I get no popups or banner ads. I never use Internet Explorer.
I think the education system in the US is all about turning us all into a bunch of faceless mindless puppets who think alike, dress alike and won't tolerate anyone who is different.

Re: Parties
I'm way worse than you. I'm apathetic.
There is a Hardened Operating System. http://tech.slashdot.org/tech/08/11/18/1949232.shtml
Why don't all governments have this. Why don't we all have something like this embedded in our operating systems world wide?

Sue our kids too?
Now they need to sue our kids for claiming there are monsters in their closets at night.
What Happened??
