As a general rule, anything John Carmack says can be disregarded. Why?
No loss.If Trump knows he can fuck with 60 Minutes, he knows he can fuck with others. There's a bigger picture here.
To be fair to AI, that's already the case now. Spending just a few minutes looking through the worst-rated games on Steam, you'll find a cornucopia of asset flips and ripoffs. AI will increase the amount of slop, sure, but so far, I haven't seen any evidence that people are having trouble finding the quality products.
Suggesting that progress will continue != suggesting that progress will continue at the same rate.
nobody ever should be tolerating software capable of hallucinations. We "tolerate" software with bugs, in the sense that we expect them to be fixed by the developers. How would hallucinations be any different? And sure, if you only focus on the negative aspects, it's easy to decry AI as the cause of culture loss. However, AI is also used to modernize old pieces of culture. As for the brain drain argument, I'm sure the same thing has been said about printed books, music, television, video games and the internet.
@strawb seems to assume that Trump means what he says about fraud and waste.I'm not sure how that's your takeaway. My point is clearly the hypocrisy of the Trump admin.
It's also worth noting that Trump campaigned on government efficiency and reduced waste. Every day that this farce continues is a day highlighting less efficiency and more wasteful spending.
The right wing continues its "Consequences for thee, but not for me"-streak!
Damn it, this was meant to be a reply to Medhi Musan.
So you claim that gone are the days of the pandemic. Says who? Not the WHO.Where does the WHO say that the pandemic is ongoing? Covid was labelled a "Public Health Emergency of International Concern", but the WHO rescinded that two years ago.
Until the fuckery hits a boiling point and the population either makes it clear to their representatives that this shit won't fly anymore, or(hopefully not) some kind of violent overthrow, the population is what has to give.
If the Trump admin sees a chance to distract people about the measles outbreak, they will take it every time.
As the other poster also said, if Mike Johnson wanted to suggest that work-ready people are just lazing around at home while on Medicaid, he could have said that. But he didn't. He specifically mentioned video games. The implication isn't exactly vague.
Well, you're sort of right, though Karoline Leavitt didn't blame the media for this disaster; she blamed the Pentagon:
This is what happens when the entire Pentagon is working against you and working against the monumental change you are trying to implement. So as per their standard modus operandi, never take accountability, and make it somebody else's fault that it happened.
First off: Passwords? why on EARTH would you be sending clear passwords to anyone. Don’t do that.Tons of people do that. And while we can agree that it's a dumb thing to do, the reality is that it happens. Therefore, Recall will gobble it up and create massive security concerns.
Second of all… there is this thing called “trust”. If I tell you sensitive information about myself, I am trusting you not to disclose it.As with the sharing of passwords, you shouldn't do that.
Privacy naysayers have lost the thread when they comlpain about every little thing without nuance or specificity. The "naysayers" were very specific in complaining about Recall: it recorded every bit of personal information without hiding things like passwords, PINs or SSNs, and it saved all the information in plaintext on the local drive. No amount of nuance would make up for a security fuckup like that.
Meritocracy at work, everyone!
It's not really a surprise that Republicans preach many things, but live by none of them.
This is already happening in the EU. Universities in France, Sweden and Belgium are setting up special fund plans to attract scientists and researchers, and the European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva, has spoken on the importance of securing research rights. Apparently, the size of research grants has also been increased.
