  • FCC Won't Release Data To Support Its Claim A DDOS Attack, Not John Oliver, Brought Down The Agency's Website

If the mainstream media only paid attention to this

If the mainstream media actually paid attention to Net Neutrality and cared about the issue, the FCC would have been forced to back down from their garbage hacking claim ages ago.

It's outrageous the lack of attention this and Net Neutrality has been getting in the mainstream media.

  • Senator Wyden To FCC Chair Pai: Hey, Stop Lying About What I Said To Undermine Net Neutrality

    ShadowNinja ( profile ), 18 Jul, 2017 @ 07:40am

Re: a letter that Wyden sent back in 1998 .....

    That's irrelevant.

Also, term limits to get rid of experienced congressman often backfire, and empower the special interest groups and lobbyists. Long term congressmen are better able to shake the special interests off and say no. New congressional members however much more often depend on their help to win reelection.

  • Canada Capitulates: Supreme Court Throws Away Government's Great Pharma Patent Victory

    Re: Supreme Court != Government

If Supreme Court justices aren't politicians in a black robe then why do political parties care so much about who sits on the court and demonize judges nominated by the other party?

So heck yeah this is politics.

specifically that there was no evidence that the drugs in question provided the benefits in the patent.

Hmm, I couldn't imagine this backfiring on a bunch of elderly justices who are more prone to getting sick and needing medication.

Nope, surely these healthy justices will never need to take any medication. So surely they'll never fall victim to scam prescription medications that don't actually provide any benefits.

  • EU's Brexit Strategy Shows How Aggressive Transparency Can Be Used To Gain The Upper Hand In Negotiations

    Re:

Yeah, May has shown since the beginning to be a really incompetent moron.

At this point if May stays in charge I bet the UK fails to reach an agreement on the brexit terms with the EU by the time their 2 year deadline runs out. And as John Oliver outlined a month or two ago, that would automatically result in the harshest Brexit possible.

  • AT&T Pretends To Love Net Neutrality, Joins Tomorrow's Protest With A Straight Face

Re: Re: Hey, if Google and Facebook can go for the cheap, insincere PR shot...

Not to mention Google and Facebook are actually known first and foremost as famous websites, and not for being ISPs.

Website owners generally have a lot of lose from losing net neutrality. ISPs like AT&T have everything to gain from losing net neutrality.

  • People Would Pay A Hell Of A Lot More If DRM Were Gone

    ShadowNinja ( profile ), 11 Jul, 2017 @ 12:11pm

It also makes you much less likely to play the game when you have it.

Years ago as a gift I got a copy of a game in a series I really enjoyed playing.

I still haven't even opened the box it's in to this day, because all the fan forums I went to were flooded with complaints about problems with the DRM making the game not work.

Worse of all, it seemed that the server necessary to validate the DRM went down on a semi-frequent basis for maintenance, meaning legitimate customers couldn't play the game during that time.

The company that made that game was Ubisoft by the way.

  • Facebook, Google Wake Up From Their Coma On The Subject, Join Wednesday's Massive Net Neutrality Protest

    ShadowNinja ( profile ), 10 Jul, 2017 @ 11:34am

I remember months ago when people were fearful about Mark Zuckerbeg, Facebook's CEO and Founder, running for president.

I think Facebook's reluctance to join the Net Neutrality fight speaks volumes to the credibility of that rumor, it's not true. Zuckerberg would be out in front trying to generate free publicity for himself by defending net neutrality if he were really serious about pulling a Trump and launching a political career.

That and this congress has failed to accomplish anything else meaningful in the new term either.

Seriously, when's the last time one party had all the power in DC but failed to pass any major legislation 6 months later?

This congress has so far been incapable of passing almost anything.

And our chances of un-buying it were ruined with the GOP stealing the vacant SCOTUS seat and putting another justice on the court sure to be against consumers.

Garland would have been much more likely to review the Mobility v. Concepcion decision (which was 5 to 4) and strike it down.

You're right, those Canadian laws protecting LGBT people clearly violate Russia's Gay Propaganda laws. We should delist the entire Canadian government due to this.

  • Wisconsin Speech Bill Tries To Keep Universities Neutral On Public Policy Debates, Which Is Batshit Crazypants

    ShadowNinja ( profile ), 26 Jun, 2017 @ 10:50am

    Re: I think you misunderstand

If someone is giving a speech at a college or university, and I, as a student, don't like what that particular speaker has to say, I stay away from the speech. I do not try to stop other people from going, though.

The controversy isn't just disagreeing with someone. The controversy is even giving someone a platform to spout their views. The views targeted normally involve racism or discrimination in some way, where some would suffer simply from what they were born as if those views became reality.

Such as for example opposing marriage equality and hate crime protections for LGBT people. Or, more radically, views closer to what the Nazi's had towards groups like the Jews.

    Safe Spaces hypocrisy

What I find most ironic and hypocritical about this, and how college students are derided as wanting 'safe spaces' is how the other side does the exact same thing elsewhere.

Want to protest racism at a football game by not pledging allegiance to the flag? How dare you bring that issue into football and the flag! Football and the flag are sacred! Kick those players off the field for bringing their politics into the game and the flag!

Or in other words, demanding 'safe spaces' at sports games.

  • Why Is US Government Giving A Pharma Giant Exclusive Rights To A Zika Vaccine Whose Development Was Paid For By The US Public?

    ShadowNinja ( profile ), 23 Jun, 2017 @ 08:38am

But Glyn, obviously the US government wouldn't have been motivated to develop the vaccine if they couldn't give the patent away to a foreign corporation and give them monopoly powers to charge whatever they want for the vaccine!

  • Legislators Want To Open Up Wiretap Laws To Target Sex Workers And Their Customers

Re: bad solutions for made up problems - the modern way

There is some real sex trafficking in the US. But that said, going after prostitution is just a waste of time. Prostitution is like marijuana, it simply shouldn't be illegal, and it punishes people for moral reasons rather than them harming anyone. Google "Adam ruins everything prostitution" and watch the youtube video it finds. It explains how prostitution wasn't always illegal in the US. And how a lot of women, especially in the western US, made big money off of being prostitutes. Many of those women were responsible helping to settle the west, and became extremely influential people in their communities because of all the money they made.

This is why we shouldn't have the death penalty

California's death row is such a mess that it hasn't been able to put anyone to death in ages, even those who have exhausted their appeals a while ago.

Given how this lying and corruption has been going on for 25 years, how many potentially innocent people could have wrongly been put to death by Orange country police and DA?

And how can they open a business there if some local has been ripping off their Connemara trademark for 6 years prior to them applying for the Connemara trademark!

  • Coal CEO Threatens John Oliver With A SLAPP Suit

    ShadowNinja ( profile ), 21 Jun, 2017 @ 05:18am

    Re: Kinda torn

Watch the Oliver segment linked ify ou think coal is keeping your electric bill down.

Bottom line, there's 2 main things killing coal miner jobs. One is increased automation (7 whole workers can now do 'mountain top removal' to harvest as much coal as it took hundreds in a coal mine in the past).

The other thing killing coal jobs is that it's just not that economical anymore compared to many alternative sources. Natural gas is the biggest alternate fuel thing that's hurt coal at the moment.
