  And how the flying hell would land based lines work with this new stuff, or even dumb phones? I mean telephones don't really push that much data above the signals for the phone number (since most land line phones are circuit switched, not packet switched) and for voice. The reason land lines are so reliable is that they do one thing only and they do that well: make and receive voice phone calls.
  While this will work fine for people with smartphones + data, it would be useless for anything else. phones are nice for emergencies, or when the subject is too complicated for txting/im and too time sensitive for email.

  I'm willing to pay, but not willing to pay super high prices for goods that cost nearly $0 to provide and distribute. E-books are a good example of this: I refuse to spend 10$ on an e-book that costs the publisher next to nothing to create (meaning the copies, not the work itself). I will happily and merrily buy the paperback for 7$(or less) instead. That way I get a book to read, and I can gift it to either someone else or my local library, or even make a few cents off it. Personally I see the e-book (ebook?) craze as completely and utterly retarded.
  What I won't do is pay an artificially high price for a good that is worth less than a penny physically. (Again, ignoring costs to the creators, just cost per copy)

  technically, an ISP doesn't have to have proof. Internet/phone/tv service isn't an inalienable right.
  
  Of course it would be nice if ISP put up a moderate amount of resistance for their customers, but they seriously would rather lose 1000 customers than have to go to court over a supposed infringement once.

  Personally, I don't care if politicians are sleeping with prostitutes, or have mistresses. I do care that they spend my money on things that I either don't agree with or are actively against. I want transparency only when it affects me or the money I entrusted to them. I couldn't care less about their love life.

  This is utter bullshit. Is the ESA attacking Free Software now? (btw: Linux isn't freeware, it is free software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeware)) I hope the FSF and EFF get wind of this start a major legal smackdown.
