  Never Understood

  Why doesn't Netflix just say to Hollywood "screw you guys, I'll make my own moon amusement park; with blackjack, and hookers." or something to that effect.
  
  They've got enough revenue flow to start producing or promoting original content--and then the rubber band will be on the other claw!

  You've obviously not looked at any patents.
  
  The idea behind a patent is, after it expires, it can be used by anybody to build the 'whatnot' detailed within.
  
  Modern patents are, on this scale, utterly rubbish. Go ahead, grab any patent granted in the last 20 years and see if you could build the 'whatever' that is detailed in the patent.
  
  I'll bet you my next paycheck the answer is 'no'.
  
  Of course, I'd be happy to be proven wrong--please do!--but this is a really safe bet. All of the patents granted lately are completely useless to anybody except lawyers & patent trolls. They're not instructional anymore, they're just obfuscational.

  Yes, and there's dozens of holes a good lawyer could argue around to get your contract considered new/invalid so far as grandfathering it under older laws goes.

  I actually have a long-standing disagreement with the concept of "races" amongst humans... I find it disgusting that people think in those terms, accepting pejorative falsehoods as fact and never reasoning for themselves.
