  • Website Busted For Not Having A Law License

    scott ( profile ), 07 Mar, 2007 @ 06:07am

    Laws...

The issue lies with the LAW. Make the LAW more black and white and laws are no longer open to interpretation. THEN, we can program a website with the black and white laws, and it can do the job of an attorney. HAHA!! I know, that will never happen, there are WAAAY too many people who use the gray area of the law to get what they want, and those are the same people who have 90% of the wealth in the country!!

  • Would You Like Some Social Networking With That Network Switch?

    Write Off...

That's all it is, a write off for Cisco, who has been paying WAY to much in taxes... Hopefully, they will be able to write it off in the next 3 years and save themselves about 4 billion in taxes.

  • Washington Post Latest To Join Open WiFi Fear Mongering Crusade

    scott ( profile ), 12 Feb, 2007 @ 11:43am

    Open WiFi

I personally have seen open wifi used for evil. We (security company) discovered that there was a group of evil do-ers who were going around using open wifi to order Dell computers, and had a cohort who was a manager at an apartment complex. The wireless steelers would order a computer from someones in-secure wifi and have it shipped to an empty apartment, Dell was out about 2 million on this before they were caught! That said, if you secure your wireless, and use common sense, you have nothing to fear. Maybe we need to go to the model of Wireless drivers licenses!!

  • Universal Music 'Settlement' With Bolt Makes A Mockery Of The Law; Common Sense

    scott ( profile ), 12 Feb, 2007 @ 08:18am

    Great...

Now they (bolt) are helping set precedence because they were out of freaking money... That just plain sucks. Now Universal will quote this case as a win, and provide hours of fun with other companies with the same shitty case.

  • Best Buy's In-Store Website Might Not Be BestBuy.com

    scott ( profile ), 10 Feb, 2007 @ 10:03am

    Re: Browser cache

Not likely....Using a database as a backend to a website usually indicates that the website is dynamic, and should not be cached at all... Most modern browsers can follow a properly formated site which uses the "no cache" directive. The best, and most probable explanation is that they use seperate databases (confirmed by the fact that they would never use an external website and waist internet access on going out and back in to their external facing website) for the in store site, as well as the fact that they are required to login to the intranet in store. Get over it, and make them give you the price advertised on the site you visited.

  • Companies Starting To Realize That Playing Solitaire Isn't Always Bad For Productivity

    scott ( profile ), 03 Feb, 2007 @ 10:42pm

    My Job

the company I work for is lucky to get 3-4 hours a day from me. Funny thing is, I get everything done in that amount of time, which leaves me free to research things that interest me, which just happens to be what I do for a living...kinda catch 22, so, I am actually bettering myself through research while being paid by the company I work for. My boss knows exactly what I do, and for how long, and he blesses it with eagerness, as he knows it is just going to make his job easier.

Long story short, fuck you draconian whip lashers who think that the only way is your way!!

  • Wasn't Sarbanes-Oxley Supposed To Stop Your Execs From Setting Up Fake Companies For Financing Vacation Homes?

    scott ( profile ), 26 Jan, 2007 @ 06:04pm

    Read it this way...

SOX was not conceived to actually stop dumb asses like this, it was designed to be able to prosecute them for it. I work in infosec and the information we gather about who touched which files and when, spending millions of dollars for software and technical services and personnel to manage and monitor it was all just so that when something like this comes up, we have ammo to load into the breach for the SEC, and the corp who has taken it in the seat. It is not really a preventative type of situation.

  • ISP Customer Service a Dead Art Form?

    scott ( profile ), 03 Dec, 2006 @ 05:07pm

    E-friggin-mail...

I ran a small ISP for several years, we had 5 people in tech support, so we could not afford to fuck around with whinny people who paid 15 bux a month, and expected it to be comparable to a SLA you would get with a DS3 from a major carrier. In the last year I owned the company, we started telling people to use hotmail or yahoo and leave us alone!!!

  • Paging William Shatner: Restaurants To Let You Name Your Own Price

    scott ( profile ), 01 Dec, 2006 @ 04:12pm

    Prices

Uh...Prices at restaurants are VERY MUCH a money maker...thing about how much a head of lettuce costs, and then think about how much you pay for a salad, which contains 1/10th of a head of lettuce. Okay, got that? Now, Think about a T-Bone steak... I pay $7.99 per pound on the high side, when was the last time you seen a T-bone for less than $20.00? Okay, Now think about a huge meal with your favorite entree and all the fixings... Are you hungry yet? :o)
