My own research report shows that Copyright harms creativity, wastes billions of dollars every year, and leads to censorship and the violation of our legal rights. Thus, based on my report, Copyright should be ended.
In case you weren't aware, America had a slogan change from "Land of the Free" to "Land of Hypocrisy". Please adjust your expectations accordingly.
Next up, they'll claim SOPA will cure cancer and wont' somebody think of the children? Those who don't like SOPA just want there to be child porn on the internet. SOPA will stop terrorism. There are so many lies they can go with. It's like being a politician.
SOPA is part of the 1%. More proof that Democracy is dead in the United States and around the world. The New World Order happened and people didn't even know. Our Governments have failed us, they have become corporate owned and We The People need to fight back.
To me, as a Canadian, I find this an act of War. By declaring War on Canada, we shall no longer allow you to leech off our natural resources. You are officially no longer the trousers of Canada, USA. We hereby declare America the World's Worst Neighbour.
I think I've finally figured out what copyright law is. It's whatever you want it to be. Just say "Hey, that is copyrighted, you can't X, Y, or Z." and then BAM! that's the law. Awesome, huh?
I wonder how many Americans still feel like they are in the Land of the Free?
Free Speech > Copyright
Just like the horseshoers and player piano repairmen of the past, all things must either evolve, or disappear. But don't shed a tear for them, for in their ashes, larger, better companies will rise up, just as it's always been throughout history as technology evolves.
Well, that is unless they can pass legislation to try to bring on a technology Dark Age. That's basically what they are trying to do with SOPA/Protect IP/DMCA/ACTA and every other legislation they present to corrupt politicians.
What's next?
Porn star sues others for doing same sexual position?
Gamer sues because others are using cheat he found?
Techdirt sued because they had similar editorial to another website?
Copyright is so broken, so far gone, that it will take some extreme measures to fix it, if it can even be fixed.
At this point, we'd be much better off in a world without Copyright, and think of all the good that wasted money could go towards. Same goes for Patents.
Sorry, "We, the People" has been modified to mean "We, the Corporations". Since Corporations are considered people, but are of larger importance to politicians because they give them large sums of money in the form of brib... err, lobbying and donations, it is only the will of the Corporation People who matter to the U.S. Politicians. So if you want answers, please ask the Corporation People's Public Relations Department.
Publishers know very little about gaming and the gaming audience. They are idiots in suits.
Know Your Audience: Gamers are an aging demographic who don't like many of the crappy games published today and harken back to the "good old days" when gaming was good.
Reason To Buy: Favorite games of the past, and even some new ones, that have no DRM and are available at a reasonable price. They are easily downloaded, manuals and all the extras, work with modern hardware, and they require no hoop jumping to get.
It's just that simple, you idiots in suits. Gamers aren't stupid, we recognize when you are trying to rip us off and shovel the same crap down our throats. Thanks, but no thanks.
Perhaps they should rewrite it then so it says what they mean it to say.
Why again do corporations get to write all the laws and bills for America? And why do those same American corporations then go to other countries to try to right the laws for others too? Something is wrong there. "We the people" was not in reference to Corporations, and Corporations were never meant to be considered people.
And this is what is wrong with America. No wonder 99% of the population is pissed off.
I'm with others, I'm totally confused what this even means. Won't they just continue lying, but it will be without permission, but doesn't change the fact that they'll be lying? This whole thing makes as much sense as the election system.
A tech giant should purchase one of these piss-ant movie studios and then use their own lawyers and lobbyists against them. Warner Bros is nothing compared to most of the giant tech companies.
UN running it would be bad, but not as bad as the US Government running it.
Only Anonymous is currently qualified to run the internet, and that's not saying much.
The MAFIAA does not adapt, they simple FAIL.
The real problem it seems, from a logical point of view, is that copyright is what needs to change, that it is hampering the innovation, that it is the problem. But of course, since most governments are bribed (lobbying) by the biggest profiteers of copyright, you won't see that change.
Perhaps though censoring is what the United States wants to do. After all, as the video mentions, the internet has been used to over-through corrupt regimes, and as the evidence shows, the American government is the most corrupt regime on the planet. Perhaps they are trying to stop themselves from being over-thrown and out of power.
This is just more proof that America is not a Democracy, but a Corporatocracy. They are they to serve Corporations, not the citizens of the United States.
Re: Because you have a weird definition of "the public"
Censorship is bad. Any one who thinks otherwise is a person with a dangerous mind.
Theft? What theft? There is no theft in copying. It has yet to ever be proven that it is a lost sale.
Perhaps if the industry embraced new business models rather than fight against technological change, it might make even more money instead of wasting it. Just think back to the cassette & VCR tape controversy which saved the industry and made it even larger.
Embrace technology and change, that is what is the problem. Copyright doesn't work, has never worked, and needs to go. Any one who disagrees has a twisted sense of creative rights, since all creative work is a remix and builds off of that which came before it. Fact.
