Re: Re: Re: Re: ONLY $87,000

I think you've run too fast into the forest and bumped your head on a tree!

Aside from the already completed sales I believe that there is also a marketing value in having your art on display in various venues which you don't seem to be willing to accept in your "bottom line" analysis. The sales (you claim) are from a window of opportunity that has already closed however you offer no support for this claim and seem to ignore all other factors such as: "When did these sales start?" - if it was a week ago that $87k looks like a great start, even if it was six months ago it's a nice bump to the revenue stream - but you only state the fact that the video is from last year. How very short sighted of you.

"It may or may not be worth it to the artist in some non-monetary way, but as a business model (which is what is being discussed here) it doesn't appear to be a money maker."

Wow - REALLY? Where did you get the idea that this is the sole focus and business plan for this artist? Do you not understand this is merely one project and not a be all end all business strategy?

Your myopic views and narrow-mindedness are one of the main problems artists are dealing with these days when the old school media companies try to bottom line every project on a stand alone basis, rather than view the ever increasing music/art market that doesn't necessarily care if the gatekeeper EVER gets paid for not actually having the talent to produce something.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:

AJ - on a very rare occasion, I have actually agreed with you, but, on the whole (notice I don't say because you're an "butt hole" here), you come off as a shill for the entrenched lobbyists (big media/ entertainment industry)with virtually no regard for "society as a whole" over the right of the monopolist/copyright/content creator to be paid repeatedly for the same piece of work. I understand both sides of the story and my opinion falls on the opposite of yours (we should simply agree to disagree here) but I don't actually "attack" you on a personal level. Living in a democracy (term used quite loosely considering the last 9 years of the US gov't actions {since 9/11}) I'd be willing to put my characterization of you up to a true democratic vote of the regular readers here at TD. I would be willing to publicly apologize here on TD if the TD community thought I had in any way overstepped a somewhat reasonable boundary in our disagreements here in print (since we don't communicate any other way).

I offer my condolences for your loss (of your sense of humor - regarding my immediate previous post, that is!)

Care to point out where my post is of a troll-ish nature?? I'll defer to you, the expert here

What really concerns me is the half of this guys unit that is apparently in prison with Manning. What the hell did they do to get there? Just curious...

If you're at the top it seems that everything is just fine, if you are anywhere below that you realize you're just getting pissed on - hence the title "trickle down economics" which should be called "Piss on the rest of you!" economics. A theory/practice used by those who have their pockets lined by those with the most money (entertainment/media corporations).

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:

    Wow - really?

Just wow - since reading comprehension seems to be difficult for you I'll isolate the sentence from the paragraph that would indicate Shermy is obviously against fair use - for others, that is:

"This was the same guy who famously announced that as CEO, he had Stephens Media "grubstake" (i.e., "fund") Righthaven, the company that has sued bloggers for quoting even snippets of LVRJ articles."

The point where he is a hypocrite and Mike points it out occurs here:
that Federicks seemed to have absolutely no issue whatsoever with copying from my blog in trying to mock our post about Righthaven suing Matt Drudge. He quoted one sentence out of a five sentence post -- or 20%. In other words, he copied more of my post than was copied on some of the sites Righthaven is suing. So, I'm confused, Sherm, is copying stealing or not? And why is it okay for you to do it to me, but not for others to do it?

Tomorrow we'll discuss hypocrisy, inference and insincerity in depth as well as how to fill out unemployment forms if you decide incorrectly using these three traits are good for business and/or a wise career move.

Class dismissed, thank you for your attendance.

    Re: Re: Sorry to say..

I'd also be inclined to ask what the forefather to the internet was and while you're at it how about space travel?

The internet is far too multi-faceted to be a replacement for any one particular idea/concept/market/communication form.

Space travel, in and of itself is unique also. It is simply not a new method of travel because the destinations were never available prior to the initial flight and the technical requirements and expense prevent the masses from employing it as a useful way to go from point A to point B within our atmosphere.

    Re: Re: Re: Re:

Another giant "Whoosh!" as the point sails to the spot right between your narrow eyes and embeds itself in your even narrower mind!

According to Sherm there is no fair use. Most would expect that viewpoint would apply to everyone, including ones self if you are so inclined to share the point of view. however, in typical Congressional fashion, Sherm has decided (by example no less) that he really means there is no fair use for anyone else except himself.

"And BTW, the Iraq war was not based on a lie, it was based on bad intelligence. Lies are willful."

The only bad intelligence was the pinhead in charge at the time. It was a corporate (Halliburton, etc.) lie that came from the top of the mountain (White House).

The truth doesn't always conform to one's ideology.

""Leaking" classified documents for the plain and simple fact that they are classified is wrong. It's not far removed from gossip at a hair salon."

The problem with that statement is that these released documents contain recorded facts of actual events and involve government entities doing things they legally/morally shouldn't be doing, rather than doing something the girls in curlers don't like!
