Try to understand:
If a cop decides that he or she needs to arrest you, that means that he or she has decided that you have or are violating a law that the community has passed and is in favor of.

This means that you don't get to leave or run. Arrest means to stop. He or she is stopping from being in the community. In other words, you are a danger to the community if you run or resist. The reason is simple: if you are indeed a violator of laws the community has passed by democratic vote, then if you are let out into the community without first being arrested and tried and sentenced then you could do more harm to the community more than you already have done or are doing now.

So running or resisting? That means you are a dangerous out of control zombie criminal. You must be stopped. You have been ordered to stop. You have dangerously decided you do not need to obey the laws your fellow citizens have passed in order to have an ordered community.

If you die are killed? Who is the person protecting the community from the law breaker who will not submit to the will of the community? The guy getting shot.

The cop was doing his or her job. Get these clear principles through your head and stop capping on cops.

And stop resisting arrest. And stop running from the police!!!!!

Thank you for this fine, fine article. I had known about this issue for several decades, knew that Holmes regretted his throwaway line, but had no idea it had never been a part of law, never knew that the line had been repudiated in a later Supreme Court decision.

This is one of the few articles on this issue that appear here that inform me and give me immense pleasure to read.

You should look more carefully to the motives for the suits. In all the cases recently (incl. Nunes) you find people lying in order to smear.

Since Floyd died of a frenatnyl overdose and it was conclusively proved in Chauvin's trial that he did not hamper in any way the overdosing drug addict Floyd from breathing (as the chief of police had to admit on the stand), the police are prudently realizing that they can never get a fair trial in the city and that they will be charged at any time for anything that the mob deems chargible, why would they put much effort into police work.

Add to that the proven fact that the coroner was pressured by the prosecutors to change his autopsy conclusions (the basis for legal action being taken by the remaining defendants) and the recent higher court's reversal of that Somali cop's murder conviction, and you can easily understand it.

In short, it's very hard for the human beings who work in law enforcement to do their jobs without risking death or injury or the loss of their freedom from juries afraid to acquit lest the mob dox and hurt them, with Maxine coming into town demanding they convict.

It's obvious that Chauvin will be reversed, but it may take several years. He did nothing but his job, and the prosecutors again as in so many other cases in the past few years, cheated in order to convict. That's not justice. The cops and everyone else can see it. Who'd want to go to one's work one day and never return for 35 years because a stoned out overdosing drug addict resists arrest?

Answer: very few.

Newsflash: Chauvin killed no one. As was proved in court. So that nonsense at the beginning of the article makes suspect this other cop. When the Chief of Police think he wasn't guilty? We should go with that. Hindsight is always wrong. The lady cop thought she had the suicidal man with the gun under control? Is that the same as sending a social worker out?

I have got a hot tip: don't walk around with a loaded gun if you don't want to get shot. And here's the obvious fact: the guy wanted to commit suicide by cop. He got his wish. The lady cop had to leave town as she should have left. She's a terrible cop and should go back to waiting tables.

Meanwhile, just another step in destroying any form of law enforcement in the United States. What cop is going to do anything to any violent lunatic with a gun if it means he will suffer the insane hatred of cop haters (like those on Tech Dirt)?

I am confused. I know that there were rioters that destroyed property and people in Kenosha last year. It was just after another black man resisted arrest and acted violent, something that no one does who wants to survive an encounter with the police anywhere on earth.

I can't remember when and where there were simple "protesters" and most especially any incident of police "brutality."

Rioting and destruction are crimes. If they have innovative and effective ways of arresting, charging, convicting rioters who destroy property? Who on Earth would not be for that?

So I went on a search for recent video of her and I do mean recent. Like in the last week.
