So your solution to kids potentially being insulted and harassed is to effectively ban any games they might conceivably play from having chat or voice chat on as a standard feature?
This one absolutely strikes me as idiocy at it’s finest. With it, the FTC is effectively outlawing on-by-default player chat and voice chat in general. And they’re doing it under the guise of “think of the children!”, as if it hasn’t been a mainstay of video games for decades.
Honestly? Good. There is absolutely no justification for cities and towns to think they’re owed money just because their residents purchase services over the internet.
This shouldn’t be an issue fealty either by lawsuits. At this point they know the theft allègerions are false. They should be charged with filing false police reports for every single one. THEN sued by their customers/victims for damages.
It doesn't boil down to "old man yells at cloud. It does, however, boil down to "legacy media icon blames current market failure on internet social media and tech-oriented demographics rather than admit his movie lacks market appeal".
Seriously, this isn't the first time Techdirt has covered legacy media whining when the people in it act like this.
Please feel free to site the law or court precedent for your assertion that as a general rule companies have the right, in violation of First Sale doctrine, to assert “approved” uses for the products they sell and that any use outside of said list is “illegal”. We can wait.
For me the decision to ditch cable TV was originally about the cost, but these days it's more about the convenience of streaming versus cable scheduling. Why on Earth would I pay someone a ton of money to tell me when I can watch something when I have a cheaper alternative that lets me play, pause, or rewatch anything in it's catalog?
If this is an issue with devices (presumably phones and tablets) being unable to have two active apple IDs on them at the same time the answer here is simple: Apple can provide employees with a work phone for their work ID. At no point should any employer, ever, feel they have the right to demand that employees link personal accounts to a work account or device. No personal accounts should ever, under any circumstances, be linked to work in such a way that they can become subject of a lawsuit discovery search. It doesn't matter what their employment contract says, that's simply a bridge too far.
"You'll hate me for having formulated the rules and will feel obligated to reject and deny them. But secretly you'll be miserable about the fallacies you've used to shout me down."
Your "rules" are nothing of the sort. They're your assertions and may or may not be based on the available evidence. But they're not the absolutes you're claiming, and you are acting likely they're truths so solid it's not up for debate.
And if you're going to try and claim that someone actively NOT purchasing web connected appliances or items, as a deliberate market choice to avoid these issues, is just a fallacy it is incumbent upon you to explain why. Feigning superiority with smug, insubstantial replies doesn't strengthen your initial assertions.
They battering tamed her unlocked front door. They dumped soda cans out on the floor while searching for a person. ANYONE who straight faced claims their actions were anything but retaliation is either lying or a fool.
This one is easy. Did I sign up to receive the text messages? If not, it’s spam, I don’t care who it’s from, and I have no problem seeing it blocked. As far as I’m concerned if it’s not an emergency broadcast anything that’s not requested shouldn’t be sent.
I hate to say it, but if Desantis wants a riot this is a guaranteed way to get a real one. In the meantime, it looks like I’ll be voting with my wallet and not vacationing in Florida or making purchases from Florida based companies for the foreseeable future.
Sigh...
He took just over a minute at low speed, with blinkers on, to comply with the order to pull over safely in a well lit place. Doing so, pulling over only when it's actually safe to do so, is bog standard policy and police suggestion in every sane jurisdiction in the country. Don't pretend otherwise. As for "setting up a camera"? You do realize that the footage available from this incident is from the police body cameras, right?
I'm giving this trolling effort 1 out of 10, because at least you put something down on screen even if it's as low effort as it gets.
As far as I'm concerned the recorded statements from those cops should have insts tly resulted in thee termination, pension revocation, and prosecution for assault. The fact that the police didn't do ANYTHING until the video was released to the public makes the entire department culpable.
In a sane world conduct and off-topic diatribes like this would be enough to get a judge impeached and removed from the bench. Sadly, we do not live in a sane world.
I'm not sure how Medium handles things like this, but as a general rule if I have no intention of ever visiting or doing business in a country any demands it sends to websites I run will get sent to the junk folder. If I have no economic or physical ties to jurisdictional authority it'll be lucky to get a form letter returned reminding them to take it up with the US State Department for any international complaints since it's not my problem.
EVERYTHING about software is math. The only reason you can use a computer and believe otherwise is because machine, assembly, and high level programmers and software designers have done such an excellent job of building systems over the years to manipulate electricity in-silico that you don't realize it.
"Once ratified by President Erdogan, the law would mandate social media platforms with more than two million daily users to appoint a local representative in Turkey…"
Any company that willingly sticks their head in the noose this sort of order represents deserves everything it gets. The alternative is a 90% reduction in bandwidth in Turkey? So be it. Put a notice on the page to anyone in Turkey that they can direct their complaints to their president.

To be fair, they were emerald mines.

Yet another reminder to myself to never step foot any place that's under the jurisdiction of the fifth court.
