It's just the 'Mob version' of 'protecting artists' is all...
Wait until a month before elections people and start the cease and desist orders.
I'm sure if I LOOK hard enough, I could find a copyright violation on 80% of sites out there - maybe more.
Yes, too bad no one could compete with 'Free' radio or 'Free' broadcast TV.
Imagine if they could have... we might have had a service for the TV with hundreds of channels!!
I pray for the day when my company does this.
And as soon as they use the name, they'll get sued - I'd avoid it like the plague.
Just because SOPA goes through - don't mean I'll buy more DVD's or CD's - actually, if it goes through, I don't think I'll buy any.
And take note - I bought at least 20 over the holiday.
Firstly, it threatens the future of the internet, which is something far more valuable both commercially and socially than the entertainment industry ever has been, or ever will be. i
No doubt about that statement.
Well, I already wrote my reps - told them a vote for SOPA is 4 votes for their competition - all of legal voting age in my house agreed if they vote for SOPA - we all vote against them.
But if you can get FREE books at the library - why would you ever want to buy one????
SOPA is a great bill... of fail.
But it can be beat with a host file.
At the very least, it raises questions about who the staffers are really working for when they're in Congress: the people... or their future employers?
Who pays to put politicians in office?
Once you answer that - answer this: by virtue of the above answer then, who do politicians represent?
And thirdly; who hires the staffers?
The 1st amendment makes it difficult to make laws that dictate who can or cannot petition the government.
For *individual citizens* - there is no guaranteee for corporations or organizations or any rights, in the constitution in any event.
Problem now is the 'voice' of a corporation, lobby, or organization is heard far above that of any individual, which is contrary to the concept of the Constitution.
And... as soon as they are out of office, they'll be working for them.
As soon as the internet is 'shaped' like corporate America wants it to be - it will cease to be 'trendy' and will be as annoying as junk mail, store catalogs, and tv commercials.
People will cease to use it nearly as much, I suspect.
But that's been the same fate of every "over corporitized" concept.
"But perhaps more interesting is the appeal over the refusal of the government and the courts to return the domain prior to the forfeiture process beginning."
This is what happens in a tyranny.
"A guy that drives the getaway car didn't rob the bank necessarily, but they got you to the bank and they got you out of it, so they are accessories in my view."
So by this logic - we should restrict where ALL cars can drive, because *some may* be used to rob a bank?
Well - move the MPAA along with the rest of the entertainment industry to China, like most other companies are doing..
I copyrighted BS support pleas - I'm suing, lol.
Third, liability. The police make sure that Mythbusters are properly and fully insured for accidents like this,
Kinda hard to be totally insured against a negligent death - I wouldn't settle for whatever the insurance company wanted, if someone in my family was killed.. heh
Too bad GoDaddy - already warned the customers I have and they are pulling their domains - they didn't like the concept that you support SOPA ever.
I don't care about attacking their rights - but I and the people I help with web pages/hosting have the right to GTFO too and it's being exercised.
