I grew up a huge Anthrax fan and I can tell you this. The albums today are not not selling because of piracy. They are not selling because they are not that good. Plain and simple. Recently Megadeth, Overkill and Iron Maiden came out with great albums. You know what I did? I bought them. For about 10 years though all their albums sucked too.

    Re: Understand the frustration, but...

Scooters wrote - "... I'm siding with Netflix on this one (even if I don't agree with the split). This change is not of their doing.

With all the years TD has been writing about the ills of Hollywood, how in the world could anyone sit and blame Netflix for these issues?"

I completely understand that the greedy media companies are responsible for this, but Netflix is at fault too. I understand that they are trying to get more streaming content, but raising the prices on the customers is the wrong way to do it. If you have a business idea you propose it to investors. If they think it is worth while they will invest in it and help you get going. You DO NOT charge the customers in the hopes you can provide a potential product in the future. That is what Netflix streaming service is right now. Potential. It is the way to go, and I prefer it over physical media, but until they can provide decent content it is merely just a bonus to an existing service, the DVD rental and not a separate service.

    Another thing to consider

How much does it cost to add DRM to your product? That is not a free service. If open products can lead to more sales aren't you hurting yourself twice by paying for DRM and losing sales?

And what happens if the gov't does seize the trademark. Do they honestly believe that a group involved in murder, robbery, racketeering, extortion, money laundering, gun trafficking and drug dealing would give a crap about trademark infringement? "We'll do all that, but trademark infringement? There are some lines you just do not cross."

    Huh?

Did I read that right? The book is not available in the US so people are ordering it from overseas? Not stealing, not pirating, but ordering it. Which to me means paying for it. Yet the publishers are still bitching? Does this make any sense? They're giving you money. STFU.

    Re: What People Don't Realize

I do, and I always get my new releases the day they come out. Trick is to be sure to put a DVD in your mailbox on Saturday, they receive it Monday and then send out the new release for you. They are allowed to ship it a day earlier because you don't receive it until the release date.

I always thought it would be smart for them to make a commercial in a very slow framerate so that way when people fast forwarded passed it it would play at normal speed. They could make it like a silent movie.

Sales of games like Rock Band or Guitar Hero aren't always driven by the songs. Sure, sometimes they are, but in the case of my kids they don't know 90% of the music in the games. They just want the game. They have, however come to love alot of the music in the game that they would not normally have known. We have even purchased several albums because of these games. Also, from what I understand, artists get more money from these games then they do from selling their albums. I don't have a link to confirm that, but I read it somewhere on the internet so it must be true.

    Wow

As a motorcyclist who constantly has to hear that bikes are too loud, I find this very funny. Can nobody be happy?

    Re: the striesand effect

The funniest censoring I have seen came in a show from Japan where instead of a censor bar covering the girls exposed boobies, they used pink hands.
