  Having talked with a number of people who voted for Trump because they thought he was the lesser evil, and given that the final popular vote result was barely for Trump: they will be convinced when it hits their wallets and healthcare. So will a lot of MAGAts, actually. The shit storm will happen, though.

  If you are venting despair in a blog comments section, you probably need to do something else, likely involving therapy. If you are trolling for attention, you definitely need therapy. You probably should try therapy. Works well for me.

  I feel like despair here is still rather premature. In the US currently there really isn't much regulation of this kind to speak of and SCOTUS doesn't seem on allowing there to be any such regulations. Also, as far as I can tell, the EU doesn't really seem to care about applying the DSA to noncommercial platforms and definitely doesn't seem to care about applying it to decentralized platforms.

  Update

  Watched the committee hearing. They held the relevant legislation back because Tillis was away dealing with a family illness. Sen. Whitehouse also said that some of his constituents were not happy with one of the bills.

  From what I can tell the sclerosis is considerably worse with US telecom than with most industries, including pharma. Pharma companies are rife with overpricing (especially in the US) and there are issues (especially in the US) with single points of failure for numerous specific things (a messy discussion that has as much to do with health insurance and bad government policy as it does pharma companies), but telecom is so much less competitive and less innovative it makes the former look functional in comparison.

  The fact that my part of the country (Upstate NY, and not too far from where Karl Bode grew up) has a number of independent fiber companies popping up all over the place is one of several reasons I'm reluctant to leave said part.

  I'm saying that if SCOTUS takes it up and doesn't just deny cert, it will likely lack a quorum to hear a case anyway because the judges that will recuse will be too numerous. This means that the case will stand as-is. And it's not meant to be encouraging. I'm saying SCOTUS is very unlikely to hear this case no matter how one looks at it. Any ruling over the underlying circuit split or the interpretation of fair use law will have to wait until another case appears.

  Oh, it's not just Alito/Thomas that would have to recuse. It's six justices, including many liberal ones. And Sotomayor has said she'll recuse herself already.

  I do suspect the underlying question will reach SCOTUS at some point. Probably not with this case though --- six of the nine justices have book deals, and I think it's likely that enough of those six will recuse to cause quorum issues.

  No. For one thing, this is a second circuit ruling and it is seemingly in conflict with rulings in other circuits (as mentioned in the article), so the matter is likely not over. Also I suspect that by the time the underlying legal matters do get to SCOTUS, there might well be either new judges or different judges.

  I'd be very surprised if BlueSky was banning people simply for being VTubers. With Fediverse instance federation I could see there being issues, but the worst thing you might run to on BlueSky is a block list that affects a few people who subscribe to it.

  I can't fix network effects, but I can suggest BlueSky. I have a presence on both BlueSky and Fediverse and my experience is that you will be happy on the former. (You can also spin up your own instance on Fediverse. I strongly recommend Akkoma.)

  No. This is a court petition and while it could succeed, it's not guaranteed to by any means. I think you need to do something either to distract yourself or get involved with trying to fix this. Dooming and catastrophizing on a blog comment section is not a good way to deal with anything.

  I guess it's not "evil wins because good is dumb" and more like "good wins because evil is a 74-year-old piss-baby who will throw a temper tantrum if things don't go his way rather than even try to compromise".
