  And once again we have on clear display a sickening attack that wasn't thwarted - not in the slightest - by all those haystacks of data. They didn't stop it. They didn't even detect it until the bombs were going off. This is what we pay billions in "intelligence" for? Encryption? this is a group whose MO to date doesn't particularly use it. Not even on the playing field.

  Who are the terrorists here? Why would anyone charged with the responsibility of a 4 year old even believe that terrorism would be something that a 4 year old would comprehend? What possible good could come from this? Why put a family through this? Theresa May needs to be told to put a stop to this stupidity. School teachers have far better things to do than bang her drum.

  Not just the UK - we are seeing this all over the place since the Snowden revelations. All these governments that have been so busy telling us their spying is lawful are passing laws to make them so. Why would there be a debate? That would highlight years of government criminality.

  Who if not the FBI? Certainly not the CIA (extra-territorial), nor NSA (intelligence). Now, preventing these atrocities is in the purview of the FBI and does NOT require spying on the entire citizenry. The point is that all this spying is not stopping this sort of thing, not capable of stopping it, and more likely to create more extremists (something the FBI seems intent on doing directly as well).
  
  In this case, we see that these TLA's are still siloing themselves and incapable or working together.

  If the FBI was any good at all at this, there would be no dead people. I wonder if Comey is prepared to look the bereaved families in the eye and explain why, with all the access and resources they already have, they cannot find these people before they commit these atrocities?

  That is probably a marketing "VP" asking for that, and looking at the result only on the internal intranet. The same breed that think people want to watch crappy ads. The Web designers will simply be writing what they were told to write.

  It's not so much a flip flop, as the ability to hold multiple contradictory opinions on the same topic. All they need to do is trot out the one that is most convenient at the time. It's a talent many politicians have.
