    I have been reading this story several places today and always find myself wondering. How many drugs do you have to use before that statement makes sense?

    Offering a "fast lane" in and of itself puts nonpaying companies at a disadvantage. It also is misleading. The internet is not like a highway. They are not going to build a separate "lane" for going fast. They instead will do more like the "fast pass" tickets at theme parks. So those of us stuck in the "Slow lane" will just have to wait longer because other people cut to the front of the line.

    Once again I find myself in need of a "Sad but true" button.

    Although, I'm not really ashamed to be American, I'm just ashamed of my government. I am extremely proud of what America is supposed to be and stand for.

    I just wish I knew a way we could take this nation back to what it is supposed to be, land of the free and home of the brave, instead of land of the watched and home of the cowards.

    I can just see it now, "This is uTorrent, it is a very bad program that allows you to download movies and music easily. You should avoid all torrents, because they are bad!"

    And all the students will sit there scribbling down notes just as fast as they can go. Notes looking something like "uTorrent- google this as soon as possible"

    3. Then goes to court presenting horrible case and looses.

    Really sucks that we cant have "Senator Obama" running things instead of "President Obama". From that I keep seeing I actually kind of like Senator Obama, but this President Obama is a worthless waste of space.

    I can understand where your coming from that it is stupid to call the cops for pictures or short videos BUT I can't be the only one who would be overjoyed to see someone hauled out for it.

    I do not care at all about the picture or video, I do on the other hand HATE those bright screens shining in my face while I try and see a movie. I paid to enjoy a movie and your little smart phone screen is taking away from that.

    (and I am one of those people in their 20s by the way)

    We also have effectively lost the "War on Terror". The really sad part is that those in charge cant seem to grasp that. Our own government has done 1000 times more damage to this country than the terrorist actually caused on 9/11 and that really is the goal of terrorism.

    They blew up a few buildings, then our leaders freaked out and started flailing about wildly. In the resulting "terror" we have now wasted vast amounts of money and jump at our own shadows.

    What might our economy look like right now if we had put all those resources into other places? We are killing our own country in a panic.

    So one big question that comes to mind, What happened to this being the land of the FREE and home of the BRAVE?

    I don't really see anyone saying that to stop this would be the end of e-mail. What they are saying though is that if Google can't make money off advertising then they will try to improve their bottom line some other way. So in other words, they will either cut back on their services to save money, or maybe try charging. Google is a business, not a charity, they are going to do what it takes to make money.

    As for the "oh no! Google is SPYING!" Well.... with the NSA tapping the back bone of the internet all standard e-mail is getting looked at anyways. Unless you are using something like PGP for your e-mails then they are getting scanned by any number of people as they travel the net.

    That is not me saying I like the spying and that I like what Google is doing. No this is me pointing out that the problem is MUCH bigger than just Google.

    On a side note, I really do find myself wondering what in the world you do for your computing. With all these posts about hating Google and Microsoft it makes me wonder how you even managed getting online and finding this place.

    I question if he would do much "standing" at all after all his insults to the online community. After all, if not for him hiding his identity, he likely would have learned first hand not all "geeks" are pasty white guys living in basements.

    In my opinion "too big to fail" does not exist, there is no such thing as a company that is too big to fail.

    There is a huge difference though between the economy selecting a company to fail and the government selecting one. Google will one day fall, it is bound to happen, but if it happens naturally through the economy then whoever replaces them will be creating new jobs to fill the void.

    On the other hand, if they stand up to the government and are shut down suddenly almost overnight. That would be crippling to the economy.

    It does also bring up a bit of a worrying point that, yes Google does hold a great deal of power. Any large corporation does. In the end though both these corporations and the government only have the power that is given them by the people. It is far past the time that we as a people stand up and demand they listen to us.

    I think the question of that fight being smart or not depends on who you are really. I agree that for most people the end result would be jail with little effect for government.

    On the other hand. What would happen if a company as big as Google put their foot down and said "We are done with this bull shit". Government then has to stop and question the economic impact of going to war with a company of that size. Even better is if a group all did it as one, you know, like Google, Microsoft, and others all working as a team.... Would our government be willing to toss our economy into the trash?

    You know, it is seeing things like this that really make me think I need a government job. Good pay, good benefits, and you can still just go in put a "busy" sign on the door and take a nap all day. That is obviously what a lot of these guys must be doing....
