  • DHS Reveals Some Data On Border Laptop Searches

    Re: Used so rarely?

    I agree.
So perhaps we need some third party data/analysis? Like, DHSsearchedMyLaptop.org where users can anonymously report the date & time they were searched at the border & how in depth it was. Many people probably wouldn't want to post on such a site and there'd be a margin of error, but it's not the 'fox's' data. Just a suggestion.

    Wow...

Wow, that's about all I can say. I almost wept tears of joy reading these inspiring words that came from a director. I for one will be seeing this film in the theatres, buying the DVD and telling all my friends and co-workers to. Oh, and sign me up for an "Its not either/or, its AND" shirt! Go see Rage!

    Blade Runne

I hope his car had Blade Runner type sounds to warn any pedestrians at the bottom of the cliff. :-)
I wonder if he has one of those "God is My Co-Pilot" bumper stickers. Snoogins.

    Re: Knight Rider

If it sounded like KITT, it would more likely say, "Michael, I'm detecting a careless pedestrian 10 metres to the North West." or something similar. But, in London, wouldn't the 'sign' read "Look Right?" Here in The States I always look left as that's where the traffic is coming from. Plus, a Brit would be equally 'dumb' if they were here and stood on the side of the road all day looking for said 'painted sign.'
PS. I want my Nissan to sound like a skateboard so security guards will harrass me. :-)

  • Kevin Smith: Connects Again, Says Pirates Lead To Converts

    Krubuntu ( profile ), 08 Sep, 2009 @ 08:49pm

Re: That's Just How it Happened...

Exactly, and thank you. I've done my share of "illegal" file sharing but if I like something, I pay for it. I have YouTube and P2P of all types to thank for discovering so many new artists, musicians, authors, etc. If they're good, I buy their stuff, if they suck, I don't and I quite seeding, watching, what-have-you. I know I may be a minority but I don't get how the MPAA & the RIAA say that "one download equals one failed sale" of an album, ticket, whatever. I wouldn't have even heard of a good 30% of creators' work I've purchased due to finding them through the means I mentioned above. Oh, and Kevin Smith has had his own run-ins with the MPAA and their Gestapo; http://techdirt.com/articles/20080910/0423552225.shtml

    Weird...

That's weird, I seriously just finished watching An Evening With Kevin Smith 2 (Part 1) on Netflix's Watch It Now, I open my phone, refresh Tech Dirt and this is on here. Netflix only has Part 1 available for streaming so I was contemplating downloading Part 2 using bit torrent. Even if I "Pirate" it or not, I'm still going to buy it because it's so freakin' entertaining that I'll watch it over & over and I know that his DVD's usually have awesome special features. So, bravo Kevin Smith, for viewing "piracy" as something to adapt to and use to your advantage and I wish you many more converts. Thank you for being a sane person in "Hollywood."

It does happen all the time...

It does happen all the time and you can especially tell by the recent increase in the so called "Mash Ups" being posted on Vimeo & You Tube. Kid Rock had a hit Mash Up with his song that combined "Sweet Home Alabama" and "The Werewolves of London" because both songs have almost the same drum beat, bass line and chord progression. I've noticed it for years especially being an occasional guitar player. I learned how to play "Skulls" by punk band, The Misfits, years ago. Later, the band Bush came out with the song "Glycerine" and I couldn't figure out why it sounded so familiar...then I learned to play it and noticed it was the exact same fingering and chord progression as the song "Skulls" but slower, softer and tuned down a bit. I didn't see Glenn Danzig suing Gavin Rossdale over this.
Silly, but tea is at least a civilized settlement.

You can hear each song for your self at You Tube:

  • Twitter, Data Center Delay Upgrades Rather Than Cut Off Iranian Communications

Actually it looks like many are using IRC according to Totir.org but I haven't /join #iran yet so I don't know for sure, but still interesting.

    Twitter's Different

Actually Twitter is different than open source programs or IRC or any other app. Since it can be used solely with SMS (texting) via short codes from any cellphone in the world. So let's say the Iranian Government started shutting down different internet connections or something, people would still have there mobile phones to use Twitter and let every one know what's going on. (Of course that would make them look guilty & I suppose if they could do that, they could block all sms communication as well but it's still different than the aforementioned comparisons.) For an interesting "Twitterer", check out http://www.Twitter.com/persiankiwi

    Alternatives...

Well, I'm leaving this comment from my HTC G-1 on T-Mobile's (limited) 3G footprint and although my carrier's not as big as AT&T, I've been able to use MMS (plus other features the iPhone can't do yet) since I got my device in October. Now that T-Mobile is releasing a few new touchscreen devices, angry AT&T subscribers may have viable alternatives.
    (Ps. I don't work for T-Mobile, I'm just a happy customer & I love the Android OS.)
    8-)

But seriously, although it's refreshing to see the law not overreacting, I must agree that this seems like too little was done. At least equivalent restitution or something but at least they didn't give him 10-20 and create another career criminal.
