    how is this different?

i'm totally with all of you on the fact that these are anoying, but i do see a similarity between this and the whack-a-mole game played to shut down file sharing sites. since they will inevitably come back, shouldn't we be more concerned about a way to come to prevent this from happening? i would assume this would be similar to the way email spam is dieing out because of advanced spam filters. going after the specific cases will never solve the over all problem.

    good to hear

i'm a huge pumpkins fan, so i was kind of disappointing to hear some of the stuff corgan has been saying about what is happening to the music industry. i guess this shows that whether you think new technologies are doing good or destroying something that you love, it makes no difference. this is reality, and artists that are finding a way to do well in this new world are the ones that will succeed.

    Re: cydia?

should have looked at the link first, but i'm still confused. cydia is a repository that you have on your iphone, and one of the new stores is the cydia store, which i'm guessing will have the same content, just provided online. in light of this . . . i still don't see how this is a big deal. no new apps will be available, and you still have to have a jailbroken iphone.

    cydia?

how would a third party app store be different than cydia or installer? the only difference that i can think of is the payment process. currently, you download something from cydia, and then you have to pay through paypal and get a software key to ulock the app (or similar payment options), but the basic principle of getting an app that didn't come from the app store isn't anything new . . . am i missing something here?

I had so much fun jailbreaking and modding my iphone, but now it looks pretty, and it's boring. yeah, it has (most of)the whole internet(if you don't count any site with flash), but even surfing on mobile safari gets to be slow and tedious. I don't really have any complaints about the phone, but after owning a 3g iphone for 6 months, I've realized that i never use it except for basic smart phone things like email and reading blogs.

I watched part of the final season of battlestar galactica on hulu, and it worked out great. The remaining episodes are coming out 8 days after airing instead of the next day. I pirated the last episode and it reminded me how convenient hulu is. I work every Friday night and I just want to watch my show the next morning. Is that so much to ask? Apparently not for the pirate bay!

someone said something about the Japanese car market, which is funny because i just saw a car commercial (honda or toyota i think) outright saying that their car has the highest resale value. they were advertising the secondary market, which actually makes a lot of sense. similarly when i see that used copies of gears of war or halo 3 are selling for almost $50 when the new game costs $60, i can have a lot more faith in trying the game out since i know i can sell it for a decent price if i hate it.

i haven't checked out the actual torrent, but from the torrentfreak article it wasn't exactly a remix, but it was called "'Death Magnetic: Better, Shorter, Cut', which contains the same songs as the original, but shortened." the metallica rep seems pissed that they downloaded it even though they also apparently got the actual disc to review. the reviewer also claimed that the edited version sounds better than the original. sounds like metallica is missing a key opportunity to take a hint from fans and do their own edit which they could then sell in official cd form or whatever. i'm sure people would pay for it.

    porn!!!

this kind of reminds me of the mid 90's when our church started warning all of the kids about the dangers of porn in email. we heard story after story of people in the church that innocently went to check their email and naked pictures began popping up everywhere. naturally i couldn't wait to get an email address . . . to my surprise, however, the naked pictures never came. despite the massive mess of spam that i have gotten since then with penis pills, free prescription drugs, and lower mortgage rates, i rarely find naked women, or men for that matter, in my junk folder. there's plenty of porn out there, but you don't often just stumble across it for no reason.
