If the canvas is considered part of the art (and I'm not sure if it is), then Ed Helms could be considered a humorous exaggeration of Mike Tyson.
I'd argue that 99% of the copyrighted content out there is less appealing than Granpa's cat videos. Also, Youtube is tremendously innovative BECAUSE an old man can figure out how to use it. Somehow, though, Big Content hasn't figured it out.
I can't believe you're being so cavalier about this while musicians are dying.
I was really hoping you'd get more responses. This is precisely the problem with this proposed law.
One of my favorite things about Techdirt is reading the back and forth and seeing how the arguments take shape... It's just that this particular troll isn't very good.
because child porn and blowing up a school are the same as listening to the latest Lady Gaga tune...
I really don't understand why you folks are feeding this troll...
Agreed. Just about every member of the board of directors of the RIAA is a label rep.

When you don't trust any politicians, who do you vote for?
That's a very polite way to put it. Meanwhile I'm fairly certain the RIAA board meetings sound very much like Alephen's rant. "Somebody else is making money on music. But, but... WE OWN IT"
Agreed. Often the antagonistic (trollish) comments, much like those our AC blue snowflake friend made today, elicit some of the most thoughtful responses. Unless someone is going off topic or spamming, I'd prefer to keep the comments visible.
Let's name things criminals use to commit crimes.
guns, knives, cars, phones, the internet... I'm forgetting something, oh yeah, the TSA. Lets ban them all.
Too bad no one has shared Bill's music with you in the past. Then you would know if you liked it or not and could purchase more of his music and/or go see him perform his music at a live venue.
I like music. Specifically live music performed by musicians. I pay a cover at a bar or for a concert ticket. The music streamed by Pandora is a service (advertising) for the musician so I'll go and pay them for their product. Anything else is a reproduction of their art and not the true product.
Pandora is a company. The service they provide is music.
Are you saying Visa is 1% responsible if I buy a stolen guitar from a pawn shop? Is the Fed responsible if I pay cash?
If I buy a hammer with a Visa card and smash an elected representative in the face with it, will Visa be prosecuted under the same laws or do I have to buy a counterfeit hammer online for it to be Visa's liability?
I don't feel that an individual can legislate in the interests of the PUBLIC when they are or will be in the pocket of the corporations that take advantage of the public. Their current contacts SHOULD be their constituents... not the heads of corporations and lobbyists.

me too. received a canned response asking for campaign contributions.
