    I was being a little tough on it, I actually liked Kubutu, and if I was making a gift computer for Grandma, I'd likely use it. Yes, you are right again, the apps for installing apps have gotten pretty good.
    This assumes you have a broadband connection, which today isn't a stretch. I was amazed how dependent it was on the "cloud" data bases, but once you had it percolating it was pretty much tag it and bag it for any reasonable application. A little churning and it downloaded it installed & made a shortcut. If all I wanted to do was surf and an occasional office task, maybe print a photo or 2 I'd consider it.

    I'll draw fire, I've looked into it and it is an OS for poor people. Everything you do is very nearly, or completely manual, installing a program is like pulling teeth, expect to be dead last to get driver support for anything. Worst of all it doesn't play mainstream games. Maybe after every other OS and gaming system has a porting of a game it may fall to Linux, likely not though, and those emulators for windows games not only suck, they often even want money for them.

    Does that still work on humans? I couldn't care less about your teaser deal, what is the bottom line.
    But yeah, Cabllite is a dinosaur. they have no clue who their customers are, & that is obvious throughout the TV world, cable, networks, everyone involved seems clueless. How else do you explain how every intelligent show gets cancelled, and replaced with something like Jersey shore, or how sports get so much air time.

    And what you fail to realize is; there are no facts, only perceptions. Granted some, like the sun coming up in the east, are fairly easy to give credence to, but never the less.

    Marked insightful. I too am a child of the cold war, I guess it pissed me off a bit, and made you more, well, insightful.
    I understand the culture that permits / causes the unrest, I just don't have a lot of sympathy for it. they need to get over it, grow up & get on with life. I was always amazed at the Vietnam immigrants, who came here after the war. they had every right to be pissed, but they were bigger than that. They integrated into society, and became assets, I'm proud to have them as fellow Americans.

    If yelling fire in a crowded theater was allowed, we could thin the herd (gene pool wise). In the future there would only be rational people in the theater and it would be no big deal. I'm not suggesting killing all the stupid people, just removing all the warning labels and letting it sort itself.
    If we did succeed in removing all the stupid and irrational people, religions would suffer a critical loss of members.

    Even if they dropped the DRM schemes, and dropped the price to free, they jumped the shark a long time ago. They used to be known for fun games you could jump into and enjoy, OR play through the levels and accomplish. For some time now they seem to think; role playing is essential part of an action game. I disagree. I long for the simplicity of the original Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. I really don't want to go to some garage and meet Bob, the go to some alley and Meet Sue, I want to drive the damned car. Now that the technology for a really great experience doing just that, they have dropped the ball, & overcomplicated it to the point of, no thanks.

    Years ago, in the 80's I was working a Payless Cashways (like a Lowes or home Depot) when we had a complete power failure. The store was full of customers who had full carts and wanted to check out. When it became apparent that the power wasn't coming back on, the floor manager got all the personnel on the registers, Supervisors with hand held calculators, everyone else sliding merchandise past them on the now dead conveyors. It was very hard work, but the store stayed running, and the customers left happy. We were probably lucky that was pre barcode.

    I treat the Drug companies exactly like I treat the Mafiaa, They get, very nearly, none of my money. I shy away from doctors, (another cartel of a sort), & refuse prescriptions when I do go. I buy a little OTC pain and allergy stuff, but mainly use homeopathic cures with good success. I see so many pensioners whose centerpiece on the table is a cluster of pharmacy bottles. Sad really, especially when most of it is chain pills, the previous one made me sick to the stomach, so he gave me this for that, but that gave me hives, so he gave me this for that........
    And we wonder why Medicare is in trouble.

    Oh, and if he hasn?t paid the tax as yet then he has to pay interest to the IRS on it.

    Why would he ever pay it at all? They can cry all they want, but being owed a debt and collecting on it are 2 entirely different things.

    You put a lot more weight on education than others might. Personally, I made my way through life (and found my way home most nights) fine with a high school education. I did return after 50 & got a degree, with honors, and while there were a lot of blanks filled in, higher education isn't the end all, and be all.

    Back on topic though; the campus book stores are more of a racket than a service. They have you by the short hairs and know it.

    "behavior detection" reverts quite quickly to "racial profiling."
    Racial profiling is just a term to try to deny the fact that minorities commit the majority of the crimes. So any serious effort to control crimes is going to end up resembling racial profiling.
