  • Ohio Could Be The Latest State To Pass ‘Right To Repair’ Law, Showcasing Broad, Bipartisan Support

    RIGHT to repair

    At some point I ask "when did a RIGHT that we all have to repair our purchased goods go away" and why do we need a movement to restore that right? When younger I soldered, welded (not so well ;-) ground, cut, spliced, slapped, and beat the hell out of things so they'd work. I always read EULAs and I don't sign, "I agree", or buy things that don't let me own what I don't own. That's why I haven't had a game console since the PS3. Why don't people just refuse to buy stuff they affirmatively agree to give up their rights to... and then expect corrupt politicians to fix it up in post?

    RETURNING KIDNAPPED PEOPLE

    El Salvador has no obligation to return him.
    There would be nobody to "return" if ICE hadn't kidnapped him, renditioned [yeah I know it's not a word] him, and shipped him off to El Salvador and agreed to PAY El Salvador to "house" him there in their prison. Your entire argument is beyond stupid. It's like saying "Well they can't just pull the nail out of your head!" Somebody put a nail in a nail gun and shot it in my forehead and you want to say it can't be pulled out. This isn't about a kids' "he started it she started it" thing. The US federal government took a guy who was rightfully in the US and put him in a foreign prison. The question is not who can or cannot order him back. It's WHY THE FUCK IS HE NOT BACK YET AFTER 45+ DAYS. And if any of this upsets and confuses you, say where you live and The A-Team-Van will kidnap you and black-hood you and take you somewhere awful and deny you phone and internet access and then see what your stupid right-wing crap opinion on rights is. The hypocrisy of the stupid just won't stop.

    KING me

    @Stephen T. Stone

    No, this is what less than half the people who cast a ballot, and less than a quarter of the entire U.S. population, voted for. Trump’s didn’t-even-get-50% popular vote victory was neither a landslide nor a mandate of approval from the entire country.
    Tell that to the Republican congressmen standing in line between velvet ropes waiting to [kiss the ring] (SHD). Apparently he won by such a huge "mandate" that it's unbelievable anyone would dare question dear leader. 2% was it? Ermagod. But those who watch, listen, and follow critical thinking... that he hasn't sent to 3rd world countries yet... what can we do? Seriously. I ask this of everyone. I'm on the same page as you, but WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT? E P.S. My congressmen have aides that take my calls. Here are the number of callbacks I've received from anyone who could stand in Congress: 0.

    DUE PROCESS is done process.

    @Bilateralrope

    That deportation is proof that if the Trump administration is allowed to skip due process for anyone, they will be skipping the part that figures out who gets due process.
    I can check into a hotel. You can check into the same hotel. You may get the penthouse suite. I may get the "run of the house" room if I'm not walked to the nearest cheap property because "we're all booked up, Sir." (with tears in their eyes like generals.) Due process requires egalitarianism, fairness, and an identified process. That's all gone. Go figure out "when" we'll have a constitutional crisis, because we're all mired in it and we don't have 4WD.

    BEGGED question number N+1

    If a President can simply ignore a direct, unanimous Supreme Court order with no consequences...
    The begged question revolves around the word "unanimous". Please allow me to rephrase to emphasize: If a President can simply ignore a direct Supreme Court order with no consequences... Nobody has ever required a court order to be unanimous. It's a court order. By adding that word we beg the question of whether a plurality or majority MAY (or may not) be sufficient. I'm not a lawyer and I don't do UPL... so given that I'd love to have a TD reader who IS a lawyer opine. If the sitting POTUS does not respond to an order of the court... is that not that bright-line constitutional crisis that the pussies claim "is on its way" but we know it's already here? Does it require a "unanimous" or "majority" or "plurality" for the ORDER OF THE COURT to be required? Just asking for a fwend.

    FAN support

    Fans generate content. Sometimes it's DLC, sometimes just a remap of the universe, sometimes knobs and twiddles and menu options hidden in software, and sometimes graphics and avatars. Content producers (production studios, game companies, play platform manufacturers) have chosen a combative non-cooperative scheme. With nobody standing up to them, the big bully in the room wins every time. What devs and indie modders need is an organization (like an EFF of game mods for one example) to stand up to the bullies. SHREDDED rights

    Are we really trying to pretend the 4th amendment wasn’t already repealed back in 2001?
    We are in a room. There is a huge elephant sitting in a cloth armchair. He/she/it/them has been there for almost 24 years. Yet we walk in and out, do our thing(s), sleep in the bed, watch the TV, text people, respond to SECDEF on Signal, etc. But that elephant in the room is still there. It used to have different names but now we call it "Constitutional Crisis" and say "It's coming" when it's CLEARLY comfortably SITTING in that armchair. So you ask about the 4th Amendment and 2001, no, you didn't ask. You were saying something. And you are right. I asked this a few days ago... how do we rid ourselves of that elephant in the room, and restore our RIGHTS? I'm not threatening anyone. I'm asking how we fix a broken democracy, resolve the EXISTING constitutional crisis, STOP MESSING WITH WORLD FINANCES, and as per a long long forgotten author said "Live and let live." Modern versions include the Golden Rule, circa 17th century. The 4th amendment was not repealed. It has been workarounded.

    Probably something like “Have you stopped entering the US illegally?”...

    TREN

    The weird thing is that “Tren” means “train” in Portuguese, but seemingly has no meaning in Spanish.
    The weird thing is you haven't learned how to use Google search, and don't understand the word "seemingly." That's like totally gosh-darn weird giggity. Feel free to use any of these 10 sites to help you understand that it "seemingly" has a meaning. It means train. Have a blessed day and go make up stuff on twitter. SPANISH IS HARD - Definitely belongs in this TD thread!

    @ke9tv

    se para, not si para
    Oftentime people working on their language learning want feedback, and some may want it publicly. I am one of those. I make mistakes and I'd rather learn. Perhaps the OP is on that same level. Perhaps not. As an IT guy (perhaps !! perhaps not) == TRUE. I spent 170 days on Duolingo working on my Spanglish. With years of living in the southwest US a lot of the vocabulary was there. However with over four regional distinctions and 20+ distinct dialects there are differences that make incomprehension a thing. For example, "camarero" and "mesero" are regionally distinctive words for a male server (formerly "waiter"). One can "get by" with a simple vocabulary. It is the complex set of conjugations that make things difficult. In EN-US it would be like comparing "us" to "we" to "our" to "ours". My favorite example is what I call the Taco Bell® Example™. "Yo quiero Taco Bell" means the same as "Quiero Taco Bell" the "O" ending on quiero (want) being sufficient to indicate it is I (yo) that wants it. Knowing when to use one or the other is difficult. This is not the issue. Si is "yes" so si para is "Yes, for" or "Yes, because." Se is "he" so se para is "He stops" or in the case of a tren (train) a stop. Es is "is" so es para is "[this] is for" I don't want to suggest that these are subtle. They require much study and that takes time and money (which trade off). I learned English in less time than I've invested in Spanish, and daily I am asking for correction so I can improve my Spanish. Point being - maybe when someone is saying something online they're not seeking language correction... just trying to make a point... and if you're understanding them then MEANING TRANSFERRED from SENDER to RECEIVER and that's called COMMUNICATION. /shout out Dr Anthony B. STAFFING

    This is killing me but I can't stand silent and then later whine that nobody didanything. @Stephen T. Stone:

    If immigration courts were fully staffed...
    They are firing court officers right and left. Then they say they have insuficcient stafing of the courts. Then they spend millions of dollars (C-130 hourly cost $7K-$11K depending on local fuel, maint, and other costs). But the real cost is the people who are sent in handcuffs and no due process to other countries even worse. Can we make a difference? Let me know when we can.

    ILLITERATES abound. Abscond!

    @Mamba

    Hey twinkle farts,
    That's funny, I was drinking a liter of club soda a day (that's five farthings to you) and then I had this feeling, and TWINKLES came out of my ass, in a gaseous form.) Good call, Genius!
    President Roosevelt invoked the Alien Enemies Act immediately after the bombing of Pearl Harbor
    No. https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/alien-enemies-act-explained
    It was enacted to authorize the government to detain enemy aliens.
    Yes, and circles are round but that doesn't create tires. Read either the link above or the Act itself. It's under WAR CONDITIONS. We have no war with randos in Venezuela, El Salvador, Cartelas in Mexico, polite Dudley DoRights in Canada or your fat ass. The Act specifically says CONGRESS gets to use its powers, not the POTUS.
    Further, the executive order didn’t need to receive the law. And the law was used to justify the detainment in Federal Court.
    What the HELL does "receive the law mean"??? Why would you start the following sentence with a conjunction? Are you a Manchurian?
    Dumb as a box of rocks.
    Thank you for signing correctly. E P.S. The rocks wrote back. They said three things: 1. Dumb is the inability to speak. If you spoke English you'd mean "stupid." 2. The rocks assure me that as a boxfull they ARE smarter than you. 3. LANGUAGE evolves

    Sure, renditioning is not a word. Leveraging is not a word. Gifting is not a word. None of those are infinitives, either. An infinitive is usually "to" followed by a verb. That is why "To boldly go" is a "split infinitive" because Shatner is illiterate and the infinitive is splid by the word boldly. Incentivize is not a word. Yet somehow "prioritize" IS a word. English is evolving. RADAR, LASER, LASIK, and many other acronyms (not to be confused with abbreviations) are now considered words and not capitalized unless otherwise required (first word of a sentence, title, etc.) Ain't was not a word. Yet now it is. If you want to do something constructive, find a mirror, stand up to it, look into the reflection of your own eyes, and say "Biggie Smalls" three times. Then go post on Reddit on how that worked. Kvetching about language adaptation over time is like complaining that the word "Internet" didn't exist in OED or M-W in 19-diggity-seven. JUDGE'S ORDERS IGNORED

    @31Bob:

    Were people flown to El Savadore AFTER a judge ordered the planes not to go?
    The question "were people flown" can mean "did people get driven to the airport," "did they board an aircraft," "did the aircraft take off," and "what happened then?" The USDoJ has indicated that AFTER the judge's oral order (which is binding on officers of the court and their clients) the planes made their way to third-party (third-world) countries where the pax were deplaned and put in prison. It has not been clarified the series of events in a time-range from:
    • Hearing
    • Judge oral order
    • Planes get loaded
    • Planes take off
    • Planes leave US airspace which is a nonstarter because they are US military planes under the command of the US government at all times
    • Judge issues written order
    • Planes do not return to US soil
    • Planes request and get permission to land at 3rd party airport
    • Pax are deplaned and transported to prisonwith no review of charges, no hearings, no trial, and no judgment.
    So I get what you're asking and the easy answer is"YES people were flown out of the US after the judge's order."
