  • Illinois Lawmakers Ban Police From Ticketing And Fining Students For Minor Infractions In School

    WHO DISCRIMINATES?

It's been found that school officials and police are 2x as likely to try and ruin the lives of PoC kids and those with disabilities. This isn't an Illinois problem. It's letting unthninking asshats handle those who will one day elect more asshats like them. Racist asshats aren't just enshifitying schools. Some of them look orange, hire Fox "talent" to run the country, and can't put a sentence or a real lock of hair together coherently.

TOO LARGE [a law firm] TO FAIL [its clients]

Which brings us to the most damning indictment of all: Law firms that can’t even advocate successfully on their own behalf have no business advocating for anyone else.
That's the best lede. Can't argue with truth. E

    Crystal Ball INOP

You don’t see it at all, or you see it and it’s not working properly?
It's been all-links-404 for months. Every now and then one of the 5-6 links works. Chrome. Firefox. Linux. Android. They are borked. Leigh did say y'all were working on it but even today, all the links are 404s. With such tantalizing headlines it's a real bummer to click through and get that "Oops."

    I'M A FAN

I love Formula One. I'm a huge fan. Not ever going to another race in person again. Too expensive, no good visibility (no not even from the suites), and bad attitudes. I loved CART/IndyCar (not the current Indy Racing League fendermobiles) and I went to many of those races. Not ever going to another race in person again. Same issues as with F1. I love flying helicopters, but $500K-$1M is richer than my blood. So while I once owned one working for a company that subsidized its use, I'm not buying one anytime soon. BUT IF YOU WANT TO GUILT TRIP ME that "I'M NOT A REAL FAN" because I won't spend $80+ on software I DON'T OWN that works on a console I WON'T BUY because J. Rando Company can BRICK IT... guess what. You're right. I guess I'm not a real fan. E P.S. I have other expensive hobbies and at the end of the day, I want to ensure I'm paying a FAIR PRICE and I ACTUALLY OWN what I buy. An $80 "license" is like paying to bend over and find out what a cuck is.

    Checks and balances

Witchy Noem understands nothing about the CONUS and has sworn an oath (which means nothing to Republicans) to uphold that which she doesn't understand. Normally we'd exxpect that Congress or the courts would address this. But they are fecal (oh did I misspell "feckless"?) pieces of shit. Noem needs to be renditioned to (formerly El Salvador) Sudan along with Pam Blondi and Robert "No vaccines where they save lives and let me swim in sewage" Kennedy Jr. (What a disgrace, but hey, worm away.) Can't wait for the "Golden Dome" when we can't even intercept one ICBM after 15 years of testing by our most bribed government contractors. Beam me over to an alternate timeline, Scotty.

    Pedestrian impostors

See e.g. https://thehill.com/policy/transportation/448643-cbp-says-it-has-caught-over-100-imposters-out-of-19-million-scanned-by/ If you google "pedestrian impposter cpb definition" you'll see lots of examples that spell it out. If you walk across a land crossing border you are a pedestrian. If your face image doesn't match what CPB/DHS expects you're an imposter. I didn't make up this term... and I'm not defending it... I'm just sharing what I found when I looked it up.

    @David whines:

    ...given your sockpuppeting as “Koby”...
"given"? "given???" No, you just made it up and pretend it's a fact. How very maga of you. I always sign my name. I have no connection to, know of, or ever signed any other name other than my own. That's been something I was doing as far back as usenet and I haven't seen a reason to change it.
Hamas arose... Totally offtopic, but arab terrorists have been around for centuries -- long before Israel, which is not a terrorist state.
Best go read some history. You know, best to be thought of as a fool than open your mouth and prove it. Ehud

    Pedestrian Impostor

What the actual fuck is a pedestrian impostor? So many fun ways to parse this...
Yes, the play on "pedestrian" has opportunities. I find today's Congress filled with pedestrian attempt to pretend to be "lawmakers." Real def: A "pedestrian impostor" refers to a person who is not actually a pedestrian, but is pretending to be one, often with the intent to deceive or engage in criminal activity. This term is sometimes used in the context of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facial biometric technology detecting individuals attempting to enter the country using someone else's travel documents.

    BorderCams

    ..south-facing cameras...
In Arizona Interstate-19 leads to Nogales AZ, which connects to Nogales MX. 25 miles north of there is a CPB Tucson Sector station. Both north and south-facing cameras exit (north, and south of the station). We also have Interstate-10 which connects Phoenix and Tucson. Halfway along that 100 mile section are camera poles (same as the southern ones) on both sides of the freeway taking head on shots and backshots (ALPRs I guess as well). MITIGATION: 1. We know where the cameras are. 2. Arizona law only limits driver window tint opacity. Other windows can be mirror tint or black. 3. Arizona has no laws preventing the use of face masks. There's a guy who regularly drives 100MPH+ in Phoenix wearing a gorilla mask. There's a guy in Tucson who used to drive through speedcams with a V for Vendetta (Guy Fawkes) mask. Neither have been successfully prosecuted. The Tucson guy (no pun intended) had his lawyer go to court so HE didn't go, so HE couldn't get cross-examined. The lawyer had one question for Officer#000000 - can you swear under oath that this picture is my client. Officer said no. MTD. Granted. This being a hot state most of the year, some people put up blinds on the inside. They have those rubber suction thingies and it holds up a mini-curtain (usually rolled up like a bamboo matt.) That's not against the law either. In other words, CBP isn't just doomed to fail capturing no real useful pictures that are of sufficient quality, but there are enough workarounds to prevent even the initial picture. As for the ALPRs, all the cameras currently in use are about 8-10ft off the ground, so reflective license plate covers that don't allow a view from above but DO allow the cop stopping the vehicle to "run the plate" are also ok. I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice.

  • Trump FCC To ‘Investigate’ Dish 5G Network, To The Direct Benefit Of… Elon Musk

    Ehud Gavron ( profile ), 15 May, 2025 @ 10:16pm

    Voting on FCC

Have those that hold a FCC ham or Commercial license nominate and vote on the commissioners
I hold both types of licenses. The word "have" suggests that what is meant is: "Change the process so instead of appointing their cronies, the administration gives up its power to the masses to vote in non-cronies." Problem#1: The administration isn't into giving up power. They keep pushing that envelope to see how much power they can use because neither the courts or congress are slapping them down. That's not likely to change. Problem#2: The same "majority" that elected orange dufus are the ones who would be "voting" for FCC coms, and just like Ajit Pai, the FCC is free to manufacture whatever write-in campaign they like. So the end result we have now is no net neutrality. The end result if problem#1 didn't exist is they'd still elect the cronies. Problem#3: Chevron decision and others are ignored by the current admin but if the non-cronies got the majority, you can bet they'd bring the vice-grips and de-fang the FCC entirely. Like a lot more than now. There has been a systemic buildup of corruption in US governance to get to a point where there is no "system of checks and balances" and SCOTUS is about to gut national injunctions. We deport and rendition people with standing court orders preventing them, but if you're white from South Africa we send a plane to bring you over. There's a problem here. Brendan Carr is but the latest example. Before him Ajit Pai. This has been going on for decades. Also the whole "spectrum" thing is just a money grab. Ever since SDR became possible there are other methods of communicating over radio waves without a discrete frequency. But the FCC's lack of guiding brain and the telcos wanting to spend their money on lobbyists, not tech, means that "next-generation" (a stupid name for anyone who's ever developed a Version-3 of something) isn't going to happen anytime soon. Have a great weekend everyone! Peace, Ehud

When the teacher looks away the class will play

When there are no consequences then there is no rule of law. Congress has abdicated. The DoJ has abdicated. All that leaves is that 77 million people don't care about the Constitution, the First Amendment, the Fifth Amendment, the Fourtee... you get the point... and elected a carnie. But 75 million people agreed a very smart lawyer (who is also a Black Woman and that scares fat old greedy white republicans) was a better choice. To quote the famous political writer and theologican M. Crue:

In the beginning, good always overpowered the evils of all man's sins But in time, the nations grew weak And our cities fell to slums while evil stood strong In the dusts of hell lurked the blackest of hates For he who you fear awaits you Now, many, many lifetimes later Lay destroyed, beaten down, only the corpses of rebels Ashes of dreams and blood stained streets It has been written that those who have the youth, have the future So, come now, children of the beast Be strong and shout at the devil
