This type of monitoring does have a chilling effect, similar to NSA monitoring. In this case though I DO want people not to want to risk carrying weapons. If S & F leads to that outcome I'm all for it.
I had been sick for several years with an easily treatable illness. Eventually I figured out using the Internet what it was and I got better. Later I thought to check the reviews of the GP would been less than helpful - turns out everyone considered him a quack and had very similar experiences to my own. Had I checked earlier I would have pushed a lot harder for a better source of advice.
Some doctors are just terrible and patients should have the means of discovering that without having to go through their own needless tragedies through incompetent medicine when they get sick.
I agree with the comments from the non-TV watchers. I haven't owned a TV for nearly 13 years and for the last 7-8 years have simply downloaded whatever I felt like watching.
Soon enough the technology will be available for everyone will be able to watch whatever they like on any device, and the current monstrosity which is cable TV is disappear into the history of media.
I actually witnessed cable this weekend at a friend's place. What abomination! Mostly crappy content, lousy interface, and endless, irrelevant commercials. And worst of all, you were required to watch at prescribed times. All very strange!
But to be fair about this, all legislators' computers and those of their immediate families should be searched and the legislators' families required to pay the full value of accrued fines, should any fines be required to be laid.
I haven't had a TV since my ex lugged it away 10 years ago. Nowadays the 3-4 shows I like I simply torrent. Imagine that, 10 years without hearing a TV commercial.. :)
Economics is predicated on the idea of the distribution of scarce resources. Files that can be copied, be they music files or ebooks, are not scarce resources because they can be infinitely copied and distributed for free.
Creators of these types of content will need to find some other business model other than ones that rely on laws and policing ( think of apples being sold on a street where are hungry and the population knows there is a infinitely powerful 'apple generator' under the stall that creates apples for free. Do you really think people are going to suffer high priced apples in this situation?
.. so hopefully all this ridiculous software patenting stuff by the Americans will be forgotten about. It's devolved into simple legal competitive maneuvering and does nothing to promote the common good, which was the intent of patents to serve in the first place.
Pretty much comes down to that in my book. The state has no right to stop this type of self knowledge, and there are plenty of valid reasons for getting this information into a person's possession.
I haven't owned a TV in years because I couldn't handle the distraction of being forced to attend to meaningless, unwanted drivel. If Google intends on pursuing this is better be presenting highly targeted information even more interesting than what I was intending to watch.

I actually like Stop and Frisk

Re: Hmm
An Esperanto redux or do you mean simply promoting English?
I've always agreed with this. We only need one.

Re: Re: That's why I love Canada
I'm usually same day or the next. Rarely it's 3 days. This is in Toronto.
They are serious

That'll teach them.
Yay for torrents and books
