nuff said. There's a small theater here in our town, privately owned. It's smaller, the prices are a good 2-4 dollars less, the sound is great, the video isn't too bad, it's always clean, there's always people there watching movies too. The employees are kind and helpful.
How is this news? The article specifically states:
The offering is the first time consumers will be able to install Google applications from a USB Flash drive directly to their desktop to edit photos, find files and search the web using popular Google applications.
What's wrong with including a few msi/exe installers for their products on a fresh USB stick? How will people find out I look at gay pr0n (which I don't, mind you)? Neither the search daemon nor the database is stored on your USB media, just the installs, if you don't want them taking up space just delete them.
I use GMail and the Toolbar all the time, under thunderbird and firefox respectively.
Use parted and mk'$fs' anytime you like. Poof! No google.
With software you own a license to use it, with hardware you generally aren't agreeing to any licenses, you buy the product, the plastic etc., not the "use" of the software.
No one can really "own" software, it's just an idea. It's not really a tangible "thing" like an xbox, a shot gun, or a hammer.
I don't know about anyone else but I've never seen a maxtor drive last more than 2 years. Seagate and WD are the only HDD manufacterers I'll ever buy a drive from, all of my maxtor drives have died on me, even where my bro works they had maxtor drives in a production server with raid, one drive was maxtor and went out this last month. Of course it was easy to replace since it's raid but that's still scary.
If I own a shotgun, I can put any type of grips and sights I want on it and no one cares.
I do! I was under the impression that with a shotgun one doesn't need sights!
To me, owning a modified item isn't wrong. It's what you do with that modified item that matters. Say I own a hammer, it's a simple tool, deadly in and of itself, it's even more deadly when I sharpen the head to a point. But what if all I'm doing is using the hammer to fix things that are my own and smashing in people's faces with it?
A modified hammer isn't illegal but if a few people get killed by it their family's would lobby for a law against it.
The entire issue is how much society and/or the individual can be trusted over the corporation or the government.
Frankly I trust the individual and society more than I trust an large corporation or government.
Techdirt has not posted any stories submitted by dittobox.

Change has come to America.
Re: Why the Bush bashing?
You've got it wrong.
Democrats are the cowards and the Republicans are the scum of the earth.

It's the only theater I can stand to go to.

Slow news day?

How many?
How many people would go up to the poor dude walking around Helsinki and honestly say "good for you!"?

Re: No Problem
That would me one badbad club if someone attatched a large handle...
Re: No Subject Given
In typical slashdot style I shall descend like a vulture to gather up my unawares prey:
Right. You won't last a week in MIT with that quality understanding of English.
'heell'? 'ocmputer'?
MIT must be getting desperate...
PS: :P
I hope quality gets better...

Let's hope that Seagate cleans up maxtor.
