    What I want.

    Every time a company asserts stupid patents like this, I want a Local police officer to walk into the CEO's office, open his portable cooler, pull out a large trout, and slap the CEO across the face with it.

    Maybe then with the threat of being (Real life) Trout Slapped, these companies will stop litigating and start innovating.

He doesn't mock the MAFIAA's arguements pretending they are correct.

    and as far as "downright Dangerous" I would also have to throw a [citation needed] sticker on that. How would keeping the status quo (not passing SOPA/PIPA) be 'Dangerous', and to who?

For people who are looking to download content illegally, someone somewhere will provide a simple tool, probably just a browser or javascript extension that anyone will be able to download in a minute. people who host these "rogue" sites" on a shared webserver will get thousands of other completely unrelated sites, like a family's photo sharing site, that use the same IP (typical for $3/month shared webhosting). People who are looking for legitimate content on those other completely unrelated sites, who wont think to google "File sharing hack tool", will no longer be able to see their grandma's latest hand knit scarf.

    Unless the content that was made was made in the Public Domain, or under a shareable Creative commons license, or a "Do whatever the fuck you want with it License", or falls under Fair use, or you get permission, or I run out of breath describing the ways in which you can legally share something.

    I see what you did there... You randomly copy and pasted a bunch of non-sense together and hit submit...

    For those who don't read the whole article mike linked to here's the whole quote:

    You grabbed a sentence fragment out of context to change the focus of the article to something you wanted to talk about... Well I know I'm not suppose to, but I feel like feeding the troll, I mean someone has to do it, Think of the starving little troll children!

    Wquating customers being 'angry' that a business supports SOPA and a customer who was angry that a game was out of stock is like saying teachers picketing for better wages are exactly like the Columbine kids shooting up a school full of kids, I have to agree with AC here, None of your post makes a shred of sense.

    What I can say about the article you posted, Here is a paying customer who was unable to be served by traditional brick and mortar distribution methods. Had Modern Warfare been available through a digital download (which is technically possible even for xbox/ps3/wii, although not typically used) and used a different payment model (say pay-per-month like most MMORPGs use) than this Paying customer could have been served, and a crisis averted. This kid may have become a pirate that day, as a direct result of a Customer Service Failure, a Business issue, that doesn't need a law to fix.

    2) "That includes all sorts of crap".... yea Like small businesses that run on ISDN (yea still), Cable, and DSL modems that need free ways to remotely connect to their server. I've setup dozens of businesses with this. I also used to use it for gaming servers, stat's websites for those gaming servers etc. plenty of legitimate uses, Where should the Legitimate users go now if you remove these services?

    3) Of course legitimate businesses don't want you to pass a law that would hurt them. Maybe we should lobby for a three-stars-three-strikes law, you make 3 movies that are three stars or below and you are banned from buying video cameras for life. (this includes most digital cameras with movie feature, smartphones, etc.). This ensure's that the content industry can preserve the rich media that is being produced today. Don't Worry though, we will send out a vague warning letter to some email address that you probably don't use for the first two strikes to make sure you know your doing it wrong.

    Cutting off the financial institutions for these sites wont do anything

    Many of the "Rogue" sites, even ones that I've seen that really are dedicated to infringement, are often hosted on college networks (massive amounts of free bandwidth), Their hosting is free, its some box in a kids dorm room. the ads are only there to make an extra buck, pay for some beer, but even without making money from the sites, they are still going to run them. plan on blocking a whole block of IP addresses.... Lets see how MIT / RIT feel about their interwebs being taken away.

    Your defense, name calling and placing undue burden on the tech industry to solve the content industries' problems.

    In response to the Whitney Boe comment: They MAY be 'Your' Products (and these days with the copyright/trademark/patent thicket many 'original' ideas may not be yours for long), and 'your' ability to hire people to work on your films, but it is certainly NOT 'YOUR' Income.

    Dug-in Content creators need to pull their head out of the sand and stop equating a download to a lost sale. As an independent film producer stopping piracy will only decrease sales. Its been shown in study after study here on techdirt that obscurity is worse than piracy.

    Just because someone downloads the music doesn't mean they would also deem it worth the $5 from the Walmart overstock bin.

    But wait there's good news! YOU can stop piracy. YOU can turn your movie back into a SCARE good! and its Simple and Cheap! Unplug all your studio computers from the internet. Now Burn 1 copy of your movie to DVD drive to a theater. Get the TSA to search every grandmother coming into the theater for a camera/cellphone, once its been cleared, place the DVD in the projector yourself, show the film, wait in the projection booth, then take the DVD when you leave. Repeat thousands of times. IT has to work! there is zero chance of piracy!
