  • Aaron Swartz Indictment Leading People To… Upload JSTOR Research To File Sharing Sites

    Re:

Someone should get a kickstarter going for a website for academic's to post their work to, with a section for the works that have "yet to be reviewed", and a special log-in section for their peers (credentials would have to be sorted out, can't have random clowns claiming they are valid reviewers) so they can go in and review them... Then, as soon as enough peers have reviewed, BOOM, right into the World Wide Web for all to see, for simply the cost of an internet connection... Now THAT would promote progress.

    Who has more credibility??

The guy who filed a justified complaint against police officers definitely has more credibility than the police officers who tried to arrest him the first time on unjust claims and had those charges dropped because they were false.

no no, the message it sends is simply that the government doesn't understand what is going on, and are sticking their heads up their asses in hopes of stopping whatever it is. The end result of that path will not be government victory, it will be full on revolution. There are more people than government officials, and the whole world can watch it unfold.

  • Apple Loses Patent Lawsuit… Over Playlists

    WOW!

When $8 MILLION is not a huge ruling, I realize just how bad this country has gotten... When enough money for a family of 4 to live comfortably off of for their whole life is not even enough for a large corporation to make a fuss over, I think something has to give.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, talk about a troll fail..

"the REAL way for people to make money is to ensure there are lots of other people making money"

THAT was EXACTLY the point of this comic. And it's the entertainment industry with their gov't granted monopolies who are trying to stomp out the competition and keep others from making the money they wish to make, and you're right, they are clueless about how it really works.

  • Re-Inventing The Wheel (For Real)

    CommonSense ( profile ), 14 Jul, 2011 @ 09:19am

    Re: Re: Re:

Oh ok, so you didn't even bother to read my comment....typical Coward...

In my comment, I address the independent invention comment, and what I believe Mike was trying to convey with it. Do you have anything of value to add to the conversation, or are you just going to copy/paste your one and only, proven foolish, argument over and over again??? Either way is fine, I'd just like to know that I can ignore you if you're just being a fool for the sake of being a fool.

  • Re-Inventing The Wheel (For Real)

    CommonSense ( profile ), 14 Jul, 2011 @ 08:47am

    Re:

    Huh???
I didn't see any mention of patents or chilling effects or any of that until your comment....so basically, YOU are the one who brought it up, just so you could argue with yourself that it makes no sense to even mention it?? Classic cowards.

You say you see what Mike is trying to do, but you really don't. You're trying to see what you want to see. The only thing Mike is doing with this article, is drawing attention to this cool new thing that interests him, and point out that even though it was done before, the creator of this particular project had no previous knowledge of the other projects. It's a clear example of independent invention, and that is all. Time between inventions matter as much as the distance between inventors, which should be not at all.

  • Killing The Golden Goose: Is Hollywood To Blame For Netflix's Poorly Thought Out Massive Price Hike?

    CommonSense ( profile ), 13 Jul, 2011 @ 02:20pm

Re: Netflix did me a favor

I never even noticed the change... I only subscribe to the streaming service, because I don't like the hassle of DVD's, and the netflix app on my Roku box delivers the movies right to my TV. The selection isn't great, as you mention, but I also have Hulu+ and there are enough shows on there to fill most of my TV watching time anyway... Ever since I got the Roku and cancelled my cable subscription (saving over $100 every month) I started reading a lot more too.

Either way, I have found that people really only care that much for one or the other, either the streaming or the DVD's, but not usually both together. For me, Amazon Video On Demand has a better offering than Netflix's DVD library anyway, so if I really really want something that I can't stream on netflix, I'll pay the extra $5 and get it, still on my Roku from the comfort of my couch. And it only happens every couple of months, so it balances out pretty well.

  • Feds Response To Rojadirecta Demonstrates How S.978 Can Be Abused To Put People In Jail

    Re: Re: Feh

    Poor naive fool...

For starters, the drug laws do not stop people from using the drugs, and a lack of laws against them would not suddenly cause people to take up the use of them. See alcohol prohibition for proof. It didn't stop anything, and now that it's gone, there are still people who don't drink. Look at certain countries in Europe as well where there are more lax laws....not one of those countries has a bigger drug problem than the U.S. does.

The war on drugs, in part or in full, NEVER works. That is a fact. True education of the effects of drugs would work far better to dissuade people from using. Simply telling them "Drugs are bad, mmkay" and "Just say no!" only serve to make those things more appealing to rebellious teenagers. Those poor teenagers have only been told not to do it "Because it's against the law!!" and that only makes it more appealing to do when they want to give authority the finger, and I think we've all been there. If they knew, and I mean really knew, how deep down the toilet drug use could send their lives, then and only then would they be able to make an informed, educated, logical opinion, and leave emotion out of it.

Lastly, if you don't think you've ever been at a red light in traffic while the guy in the car next to you was slamming a speedball, you must either live in a town of 500 people where they only use Meth, or you've never paid much attention to the guy in the car next to you.... and that's with all these laws that you misguidedly seem to think are "working"...

Ok, maybe you have a point, but the real point of the article was to point out this Dumb Dizzy Bitch's hypocrisy, and to Tim's point, your comments are still showing up despite the fact that you share the opposite viewpoint... so, do you have anything to add to the discussion, or did you just come here to vent?? (Either way is acceptable, I'd just like to know so I can ignore you if you're simply screaming for the sake of screaming...)

"Furthermore, the posting of a bond for a mere $3,815.00 should prove little challenge to even the most financially insolvent party, as a typical bond costs 10% of the bonded amount. "

From the embedded document. I'm not completely sure how it works, but that's why they were looking for the $381.50.

Re: Mike, you've again shown "free" to be a mere TRICK.

"With all the weight of evidence going one way, how can anyone believe in "capitalism"?"

That's an easy one, we're not dealing with true capitalism here. If we were, Verizon would have been put in check a long while ago, and they likely wouldn't have so much money with which to abuse their position.

Re: Re: Re: Freetards? I must disagree

I don't disagree with you, but those differences are based on opinion, and can be viewed differently by different people. Given that, I (personally) wouldn't think it appropriate to dismiss one persons view of something as derogatory only to replace it with the word insulting... PoTAYto - PoTAHto I guess haha.
