How about the portion that makes streaming content a criminal offense rather than merely a civil offense. Now that it's criminal, we get to extradite more people.
The US already has the world's highest incarceration rate. The government realizes that pretty soon it won't have any more citizens to put in prison, so the ones in power are just doing some foward-thinking here. Once you run out of citizens, how else are you going to keep putting people in prison if you don't go out-of-country. They need to start now so that by the time US citizens are all in prison, the framework for extraditing foreigners is in place.
How do you know you're going to like a book before you've read it? Giving money through Kickstarter before it's written is no different in that regard than giving money to a publisher after it's written. Reviews don't tell you you're going to like a book.
A lady I trusted for movie reviews recommended a movie she thought was fantastic. I sat through the whole movie wondering how she of all people could like something so horrible. Reviews don't mean you're going to like it.
The 30 second clips on Amazon still didn't prevent me from buying the wrong version of a song I already knew I liked. That was almost 2 years ago. I've not bought a song since. I want to know I'm getting what I think I'm buying. It's not a matter of price, it's a matter of trust. The labels have shown that they don't trust me, and now I've seen I can't trust them. So I just don't do business with them anymore.
I was an avid game player several years ago, but DRM got so ridiculous that I've mostly stopped playing new games. I still have yet to play BioShock due to the DRM fiasco that was, and I've completely stopped playing TrackMania (despite how much I love the game) simply because Nadeo used StarForce.
This is why I agree with Ron Paul about bringing our military home. It's no wonder other countries hate us when our soldiers are walking around with fake Gucci purses. Now, if they had authentic Gucci purses then we'd command some respect, but until then, the world simply mocks us. I say bring the soldiers home until we can get the real deal, or even, heaven help us, authentic Prada purses. Nothing says "respect my authoritay" like camouflage and an authentic Louis Vuitton purse.
Also, it's not standard writing style to put a space before sentence-ending punctuation. Can I share some of your win?
No it's absolutely true that they presented a great deal more reason arguments. I don't have much in the way of reasoned arguments and debate. In fact, I only have 11.60 reasoned arguments in my wallet, and another 3.57 reasoned arguments in a jar at home. My bank holds on to all my other reasoned arguments for me.
Since we're on the topic of the deck being stacked, I'd also like to point out that the deck is stacked against me as well. I mean, North Korea wouldn't even consider my proposal that I be crowned the next Dear Leader.
It's simple really. The guy you voted for can't be a crook, because you voted for him. It's all those other congress critters that are unethical criminal misfits.
Your patent reforms are far too complex. Allow me to proffer my own reforms:
* Abolish the patent system.
By definition, patents slow down progress. No amount of reforms are going to get around that. Your reforms might make progress faster and less costly than it currently is, but progress will still be slower and more costly than it needs to be.
...to put his money where his mouth isThat would be a complete reversal for him. Usually he puts his mouth where the money is.
Don't people have an expectation that their data won't be shared? That's crazy talk and won't win you anything. I have an expectation that my data will be shared which is why I give as little data as possible, and hence why my data doesn't get shared.
"Made In China" is on everything. That's not true. I've seen lots of stuff with "Made in Vietnam", "Made in Taiwan", "Made in India", etc.
I'll agree that saying "this patent case is bad so all patents are bad" is horrible logic. However, that's not the logic being used here. The logic is closer to "all patents are bad and here's yet another example of that".
Google is in the advertisement business. You know who else is? CBS, ABC, Fox, and CNN, Clear Channel, Citadel, and Cumulus, the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. Is your argument that all companies in the ad business are in a gutter vocation?
but with that INTERWEB its so easy, they tell you who they are and everything!!!It's true.
If you can't create your own worthwhile technology to make and distribute your content then what are you besides a parasite? Did you come up with Netflix, the Internet, planes, trains, ships, automobiles, wagons, barges, or chariots? Did you invent the DVD, VHS, Betamax, film, or daguerreotype? Did you create the projector, phonograph, printing press, paper, or papyrus? Did you think up the pencil, pen, or chisel? No? You stinking parasite!
If you are that reliant on technology to make money, then you obviously have a very bad business model, don't you? Without technology, you'd only be able to share your works from memory to those you could walk to, or in the case of art, they'd have to walk to where you drew in the dirt. There'd be no such thing as a movie or photographs or paintings. The only music you could make is what comes out of your throat.
This is basic stuff.
I suggest you adapt and figure out a worthy reason to stay at the table, or go the way of the dinosaur, which by the way, did not have technology.
Your points on global warming and Doug Bandow have convinced me that what Julian Sanchez said about the MPAA's already debunked numbers can not be true. Thank you for your poignant insight.
Also, you're arguments could only improve if you were to ever learn latin. Here's a handy quick start guide.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:
That was a pretty good change of subject you did there. You asked for language where SOPA would cause more problems. I gave that to you, and yet here you are ignoring the fact that SOPA increases that problem.
Mike said: Do we really want the US government going around the world, dragging kids from their homes and taking them back to the US to throw them in jail... because they set up a webpage with some links on it?
You said: "Please cite the portion of SOPA and/or Protect IP that you claim will lead to this absurd assertion you make."
I pointed it out, and suddenly you're saying "don't break the law and you're fine". That's all fine and good. Don't break the law. But that ignores what you said. You wanted to know where SOPA can cause the absurd scenario that foreigners can be extradited for breaking US law. Here it is. Someone streams something and now they're breaking US criminal law (note, not necessarily the law of the land they live in).
