"The idea that someone receiving a tattoo, creative endeavor though it may be, might suddenly lose some rights over the depiction of their own image and likeness is absurd. Absurd and, frankly, very problematic when it comes to what is essentially a play at ownership over a portion of a person’s body." So it's ok for copyright to extend to one form of art but not this one? You can't reproduce copyrighted material you pay for like an art print, a photograph, a video game or movie you buy, but reproducing someone's copyrighted art on someone's body just because it happens to be attached to them is ok? Someone getting a perpetual license to display someone's art on their body means the artist doesn't get the same copyright protection as our corporate overlords? It's one thing if that art is simply being present in real life as the natural process of living or say broadcasting a game on TV. But taking that person and then recreating them digitally for your own profit and paying that person for their likeness for their profit is a different story IMO. There's a distinction between tattoos that are just generic commonly used symbols or fair use transformations of existing works and wholy original creations. I am sure I will be disagreed with, but reality seems this way to me when courts award things like piracy a single song with hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages per abuse.
I fail to see how stealing someone's likeness to spread disinformation is somehow protected speech by just labeling it as "parody". It's also not even remotely like a political cartoon. Not a damn single person would mistake an actual parody played out by actors or drawings as the real person saying those things. The same cannot be said about convincing deep fakes tailor made to steal someone's exact likeness in looks and voice. Especially when the right-wing o sphere is constantly claiming anything and everything to their disliking is made by AI when they are the ones actually doing it. And the answer is more speech? Seriously? With so many easily convinced idiots who believe anything Mush and Orangeman spew or send their way and any "speech" to show that it's false with facts, chains of evidence just gets dismissed as "fake news" or a "conspiracy"? Does no one remember all the Elon Musk Twitter parodies and how that went when "parody is now allowed" came back? Do you think if someone made a convincing deep fake about Musk without labeling it as parody and passing it around Twitter would go without being banned or turned around in the same way? People are already using AI deep fakes the world over to scam and deceive people and we are just supposed to roll over and say "nah this is ok, it is protected expression to simply steal someone's likeness and claim it's parody or whatever justification" I think there is a fine line we can't cross and allowing this is it. Stealing someone's likeness to the point of being indistinguishable should not be protected speech. It's not a cartoon.
According to recent comments by TFG he needs all the new voters he can get because Democrats "cheat like hell"
Yeah it's definitely not like Trump has called for people to be put in jail for doing things like burning the flag or disrespecting the flag or late night comedians put in jail for criticizing him or journalist in general or protesters when else am I forgetting? All for exercising their First Amendment rights.
What makes it so so much worse is that this is literally about an actual candidate. The HB dick pics laptop wasn't even for a public official or someone running for office. Just the troubled son of a candidate. And yet somehow THAT was election interference to people like Leon Mush. The blocking of the leak of Canadian Cruz's stuff a few months ago was one thing. AFTER publicly endorsing a single candidate and even vying for a cabinet job and then doing this for said candidate's VP?? Claiming it's the worst doxxing of all time? Leon Mush always seems to find a new low that somehow surprises me. The cognitive dissonance is never ending.
(I meant the Geneva Protocol referencing chemical warfare. Not that it stopped Hitler...)
What is good regulation of AI development then? We all know left unfettered these people and corporations behind them will not act ethically or morally. If we regulate them ham fisted like this, we hamper development and innovation and entrench the biggest players. If we do nothing and let them continue to move fast and break things without consequence who the hell knows what other things come from that. And the justification to do so is because other global players won't care? Is it me or is this just another nuclear arms race? Is the answer for everyone to come together and make something like the Geneva Convention? Or just accept that we are fucked no matter what and we should let these things to just keep running amok as it takes more jobs away(and creates disincentives for anyone to spend their life learning a skill set for something to displace it in microseconds?)to generate more wealth for those with the most of it already, develops it's way into some kind of actual weapon systems? Or any other nightmare that past fiction has shown us can happen?
Good Lord, how can so many so well (and expensively) educated people be so fundamentally stupid? Sure makes you think every one of these judges at both levels should be investigated to find out who they have ever gotten favors, donations and "gifts" from. If anything in this ruling is true then Libraries have been operating illegally for hundreds of years and no one has ever written a new book since the founding of this country because no one would ever write a new book because of libraries giving access to knowledge. Access to knowledge shouldn't be gate kept. I have grown to look back on my youth and the great local and school libraries I had access to where I grew up. The library was where I first had any reliable access to the Internet and so many things that influenced my growth. Fuck these people.
If approved this merger would result in 3/6 grocery stores within a 1 mile radius from my work would all be owned by the same people. You think they would allow the least profitable to continue on? The same Kroger that threatened to shut a store down during the pandemic due being told they had to pay the already lowest paid jobs out there "Hero Pay"? The same Kroger now trying to put out ads now flaunting how they spent 500 million improving employee pay and benefits the last year ( which is small when you consider how many people they employ) in order to try and shift opinion in their favor for their pointless merger? But then sue the government, arguing their attempt at protecting the American people is "unconstitutional"??? Yeah /s
I don't believe the 2% nonsense having seen first hand the internal costs paid by my company once upon a time when I was part of the retail side of many of the same items sold by grocery stores. And this retail side is a fraction of the size of Albertsons/Safeway. And I have seen first hand their retail prices grossly outpacing ours. Not to mention the extra hurdles and barriers they put up in order to get sales prices remotely approaching what they were pre pandemic. Basically nothing has come down in price since then. Since you know deflation is "bad" for consumers and so is inflation. So they always win and we always lose no matter what.
The bigger problem, like with a lot of people market segments is that enough keep paying to justify it to them. And somehow sometimes it even gives them growth. It's awful and it infects everything from necessities like Housing, medical care and food to things like entertainment and industry. They know enough people will just keep paying to justify the "we earned it" bullshit. While ignoring any of the other trickle down effects of their short term greed.
Same here. And giving Disney even more money just feels wrong now. I try to consume as little Disney content as possible but now that they own so much it gets hard. Especially with FOX content. Fuck Disney quite frankly. They have done so much damage.
I don't understand why they just can't be damned to write laws to actual fix more root causes instead of dumb shit like this.
They want to be able to take away or put the rules out. Say the feds can't make the rules , but states can't either and so we are going to use the feds to make you NOT make your own rules! I don't even man.
I don't see how the 6th circuit could have granted that injunction given how it turned out when the FCC enacted NN the first time and then when Pai and Carr went after the states the courts correctly stated that if they had the power to enact it, they had the power to take it away too. And if they abdicated rule making responsibility for that particular thing from the federal level they could NOT dictate what states can and can do then. What the fuck is even happening here? Care should be locked up or kicked out of his job for his part in P2025 alone. Clearly he is unable to do his damned job.
This sarcasm right? Please tell me they aren't serious
I think this continues to show that to a lot of these politicians, especially BB, that they actually don't give two shits about actual kids unless they can be used to further their own agenda. Whether it's controlling people's bodies or something that will clearly do more harm than actually help real kids. Oh right I'm sorry they aren't "the right kids" the straight white ones.
The people running the government and pulling the strings certainly are very evil while liking to play the "look at us poor persecuted Jews" card to justify abhorrent actions. The actual people of Israel I am sure are mostly fine people, it's those at top that are rotten.
Virtue signaling at it's finest. Discrimination as express for me, not for thee!
FEMA isn't even the only field where there have been mass exoduses of people who WANT to help but spent the last half decade being abused by bigots and conspiracy theorists. And find that cost to help a cost not worth paying when it destroys your mental health because you fear for your own safety or the safety of you family. It doesn't matter how much fact checking you do to a certain crowd of people. They refuse to accept anything and continue harassing and causing real harm to other people. And our answer has literally been "well it's not a crime, we can't do anything. You just have to accept it unless someone actually tries to steal or physically harm you." Working in the front line of the medical field , the pandemic was brutal living in a conservative majority area. And I guarantee I didn't even see the absolute worst of it. And there have been people leaving all areas of the field in droves. I mean considering we can't even do anything about making it harder to walk into a store and walk out within 72 hours with an AR-15 that is used to murder people and young kids it's really not surprising. Of course the answer is literally everyone should just be armed at all times 24/7 and use their 2a rights to protect their own 1a right to not accept the bigots 1a speech like Elon suggested at that rally! (/S if not obvious)
