    ALL new has a spin...

But when the spin is the dominant feature then it's disinformation, not news.

It is illegal (a felony) to record police in Illinois. Expect similar laws to pass in other states shortly. So NO ONE can shadow the police.

Re: Re: I disagree completely. There are good people. We must

Look, you agree there are at least SOME good cops. Vigilantism will simply kill the good with the bad. The cops who DO NOTHING are in a bad spot. They cannot say anything or they will be killed - it has happened many times before. They also cannot quit. Most of them, like most of us, have spent years and thousands of dollars, and lots of sweat, getting into their jobs. They have people and kids, and mortgages, and car payments, that demand that they keep working - and working at at least their current salary. Even if they did quit - they could still be killed by any dishonest cop that felt threatened - even easier after quitting the force.

I disagree completely. There are good people. We must

Find them, support them (with money not just lip-service), hold them accountable, and reward their just efforts. Taking the law into your own hands just empowers the murders of random people - as happened in New York with those two police officers who were murdered. No "Justice" was done. The murder of the unarmed black man who was selling cigarettes, Eric Garner, was not avenged. Rather, the police feel more certain than ever (in my estimation of their mind-set) that they were right. The REAL cause of the deaths, and by that I mean the people who gave the police the power to kill with impunity and who protected that minority of the police who are abusive, continue to consolidate their power.

We need instead to stop the violence and use our minds - not our emotions - to guide our acts. We need to support BETTER government (EVEN IF IT'S NOT THE BEST GOVERNMENT) and work to get rid of lobbyists and power-brokers.

The article says cops are, "Cops who do this sort of thing rarely find themselves behind bars. "

My question is, when there was video evidence that a police officer broke the law, has one EVER been arrested, and if so, when was the last time it happened, what was the offense, and what was the sentence. Anyone know?

that the judges will still find you guilty and setence you. Just think of the number of young girls who have gone to prison because they got a ride from a guy who was on his way to rob some store and ended up killing someone.

Of course it will stop them (US)

I feel that many issues need to be protested against, and I support the protesters in many ways, but if it was legal, I would NOT be able to afford to do so, so yeah - it WOULD stop me - and there are probably lots of people like me that would be stopped by legislation like this. Also remember that if a protester commits a felony, and you gave them money or any type of help, you could be considered an accessory after or before the fact.

This company represents a valuable resource...

This company could be used to attack various anti-democratic attempts to control the internet, such as the Right To Be Forgotten meme (Yes, I know it's not an American law). The FFTF, FreePress, ACLU, etc. should be helping this company (to some degree, of course) to shoot other, similar corporate attempts to stifle free speech, in the foot.

Maybe the commenter thought he might have been a lookout, not because of his race, or because of his gender, but because there is a reference to there being two cell phones in use: one within, one without, as per Wiley's testimony that the cell phone records of Smith and Greenlee show that they were located near each other and were communicating with each other during the course of the burglary.

Jumping to conclusions much? you might ALMOST think you were prejudiced.

Sarcasm is needed in this situation to highlight the ridiculousness

My family goes back to the beginning of this nation, and they all fought for this country and its constitution. Under cover of having rights, our rights are being taken away, and apologists (like you) defend that loss of rights.

We don't need a nation-wide martial law crackdown. We'll just do it piecemeal, thank you. It's SO much nicer that way. You know, for safety...think of the children...they shouldn't be allowed to get away with droopy pants...marijuana is a gateway to heroin...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Speaking of pilfering money

They, the citations and court costs, need not pay for themselves. They only need to be expensive enough to ensure that the people they are directed toward are kept impoverished, which is their aim: a target that they hit with astounding accuracy.

Also, who knows if that so? Movie studios almost always say that they loose money on pictures. It doesn't matter how many Billions the movie grosses - they've always "lost money." It's called "creative accounting."

I'm sorry. I was so convinced that the sarcasm was self-evident

That I failed to put SNARK at the end. My bad. Of course, I'm being absolutely ridiculous. The press (AKA the fifth estate) is our only protection, it now seems, against a Government gone bad. This is not a Republican problem (although they, in the form of Bush, empowered the NSA and created the TSA) but also the Democrats (who, in the person of Obama, have continued to protect the NSA from prosecution for its Constitutional violations, while simultaneously attacking Snowden, rather than rewarding him for pointing out violations of the Constitution and for his whistle-blowing.)

Incidentally, the fifth estate, due to the number of consolidations and mergers, has been "bought up" in large part by mega-billionaires, thereby being rendered partly impotent. We all need to do whatever we can, within the law: including voting, to combat this erosion of our Rights, our Constitution, and our Ideals.

Why didn't the police deploy their anti-aircraft guns?

Everyone is saying that the Ferguson police police were wrong when they asked the FAA for a no-fly zone, but I think it was a reasonable response considering they could have (and should have) just deployed their anti-aircraft batteries against the agrressors.

  • New Zealand's Trade Minister Admits They Keep TPP Documents Secret To Avoid 'Public Debate'

    BW ( profile ), 31 Oct, 2014 @ 06:16am

There are citizen groups working to stop the TPP

The TPP is a Corporate Global Government land grab designed to benefit corporations while ignoring the the rights of the people of the countries involved using "Corporate Tribunals." These Corporate Tribunals make decisions that override the laws of the nation, and in the US violate the constitution. Corporations have already been using similar laws to sue the US, Canada, and Germany for "lost profits" in ways that allow them to violate the Constitution (in the US) There are groups working to stop the abuses of the TPP. Please support them. One is http://www.killacta.org/ another is the EFF at https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2014/07/dozens-organizations-and-businesses-protest-tpp-copyright-proposals PLEASE SUPPORT THESE ORGANIZATIONS! Simple solution. Lower then speed limits and shorten the yellow light period

Simple solution. Lower then speed limits, and shorten the length of the yellow light (before it turns red). Bingo! More money. I suggest going with a 10 mph speed limit (for safety you know.) and a 500 millisecond yellow (to help improve our driver's reflexes).
