  • Add Mexico To The List Of Places Where ACTA Is Now Likely Dead

    BeaverJuicer ( profile ), 11 Jul, 2012 @ 12:28pm

Hopefully, now that Mexican negotiators are joining the TPP negotiations, they'll remember how things went with ACTA, and maybe (just maybe) not agree to proposals whose sole purpose is to reward US special interests.

Except for one thing... The "Mexican negotiators" that are 'joining' the negotiations are not able to actually have any input or sit in on the actual negotiations. Same as Canada.

  • Movie About Jimi Hendrix… Won't Use Any Jimi Hendrix Music Due To Licensing Issues

Sadly, the more I read about Copyright, the more I hear Princess Leia in the back of my head...

"The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers."

And now I'll probably be sued for copyright infringement for posting this...

As Pepe Le Peu said... "Le Sigh."

  • US Gov't And Hollywood Have Turned Kim Dotcom Into A Beloved Cult Hero

I smell a Kickstarter campaign to get this movie going.

It'll even include a built in movie distribution agreement.

I will really laugh, if Hollywood picks it up.

  • OxyContin Being Tested On Kids… So Drugmaker Can Get 6 More Months Of Patent Protection

    BeaverJuicer ( profile ), 05 Jul, 2012 @ 01:35pm

This may actually be a case of the patent system working for the betterment of society... But not because of the profits to pharma.

Everyone seems to be aware of the highly addictive nature of Oxy. Keeping the patent extended, for even 6 months, will keep the generics from manufacturing it, thus keeping it a little harder to get your hands on.

Once the Generics start making Oxy too, well, availability goes up, and street price goes down.

Again, in this one instance, I would support extending the patent for the betterment of society.

Now, can someone please make some Children's Chewable Barbiturates in cheap gummy form so I can stop paying the babysitter?

  • Another One Bites The Dust: Australian Parliament Committee Recommends Rejecting ACTA

    BeaverJuicer ( profile ), 28 Jun, 2012 @ 11:54am

The Greens would welcome ACTA being ruled out completely because the content of this treaty is fatally flawed and the process that brought it about was shamefully and unnecessarily secretive. While our government did hold consultations they were farcical because those being consulted did not have the secret text and therefore couldn?t provide advice and feedback.

I absolutely love this quote. Australia just went up another notch in my books.

  • $29 Billion Spent Dealing With Patent Trolls In The US Alone Last Year

    BeaverJuicer ( profile ), 27 Jun, 2012 @ 12:18pm

I am waiting for the Patent Office, or some such, to come out with their new study...

"Patents add jobs and $29 Billion to US Economy in 2012"

If that isn't an argument for broader Patent Laws, what is?

  • Darrell Issa Asks To 'Observe' Next Round Of TPP Negotations

He will be able to observe...

From a designated room, with no ability to take notes, make copies, or have staff to help. Oh, and don't expect them to pipe the audio into the room for him either. Transmitting audio of any sort would open them up to lawsuits, license fees, etc from the RIAA.

We pay for radio and tv content, so if the internet is the same, we should pay to have internet content produced.

    I agree with you completely.

I pay for TV through Cable or Satellite subscriptions on a monthly basis. Funny, that is EXACTLY how I pay for my internet as well. It even comes to my house through the same pipe as my TV.

I pay for TV through Cable or Satellite subscriptions on a monthly basis. It is a monthly subscription. I have never had to pay per show I watch.

I pay for TV through Cable or Satellite subscriptions on a monthly basis. I do not then have to pay extra to watch on the TV in the basement vs that in the den.

I pay for TV through Cable or Satellite subscriptions on a monthly basis. I can then Tivo, VHS, DVR, etc and watch them when it is most convenient for me. I do not have to pay extra for this.

So again, AC, I agree with you entirely. We should treat Internet content the same.
