You are wrong, nasch. In English, the word 'debt' is merely an obligation to PAY, which means that if you get a quart of milk from the grocery store, you are obligated to pay for it. I hand you the milk, you must pay me your debt right there and then.

If Homer Simpson is a trademarked cartoon character that cannot be reproduced as a physical toy-doll for sale without Fox's permission, why can't the same be said for a toy (or real) can of Duff Beer for sale?
The guy going through your car on your property was absolutely committing burglary and most juries in the USA would be happy to put him in prison. So contact the prosecutor in your area and report the cops, and their reaction to your law abiding request to them. The fact that they said you needed no tresspassing signs is absurd. Does your Mom need to carry a 'Please Do Not Rape Me' sign to protect herself?? Bust 'em!!
