After reading the posts and story above, I think you guys are living in medieval times as slaves. In India there are no such contracts since almost all phones are not bought through the telecom companies and are hence not subsidized. The low call rates, cheapest in the world, more than make up for the non-subsidized handset market. Call rates are only headed further south with more competition arriving.
I remember that earlier this year singer Sukhwinder Singh from India, who sang this year's Oscar winning song was not granted visa to perform at the Oscars.
Very well put. I couldn't agree more. All other arguments pale in front of the fact that a carjacked car is several times more dangerous than killing its gas - Anywhere, even blindly.
The only downside is I guess potential abuse of the technology by an unintended/unauthorized use.
Does that mean if I write a tutorial on how to use certain features of Microsoft Word and include Microsoft Word in the metatags. I need to take MS's permission. Ridiculous.
I fail to understand what does physically putting a watermark on the CD achieve. The leaker is obviously going to RIP the songs of the CD and leak it in MP3 format. What is the use of the watermark then? Rather they should at least try to appear to protect their music by using some DRM sort of technology.

Delete the records of non-criminals
Shouldn't the system have a built in parameter to not store DNA records of people who get arrested but not eventually convicted?
Re: Security vs. obscurity
That's exactly right.

Wouldn't it have been the same as prosecuting a knife manufacturer for a murder committed by their knife.

Blood banks?
How about some organization giving information on blood banks or sperm banks?
Re: why bother?
"Simply not having to install that wretched iTunes on my computer is incentive enough to NOT get an iPhone (or any other Apple product)."
Absolutely
