File Sharing Helps Terrorists

from the and,-oh-yeah,-that-copyright-thing dept

A few months ago, some entertainment industry folks floated the idea that file sharing "helped terrorists" because certain groups that were suspected of funding terrorist operations had ties to counterfeiting gangs. That was quite a stretch, but now the US Army is pointing out that file sharing might actually help terrorists if it's done by soldiers out in the field. It appears that American soldiers, far away from home, are trying to download the latest music via file sharing networks. Unfortunately, in some of these areas, bandwidth is a lot more scarce, and having it eaten up by people downloading the latest songs isn't helping matters. At the end, they also mention that, oh yeah, there's that whole copyright infringement thing - but the bandwidth issue is much more important.

If you download music, the terrorist have already won.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm getting a little tired of everyone / everything bad being likened to terrorist. Last night a guy was comparing the "war against cancer" to the "war on terror", claiming that every day as many people die of cancer as died in the collapse of one world trade center tower.

If you question the war on terror, the terrorists have won!

Yes, I'd say the "war on terror" blank check book to justify "X" via the "war on terror" is running out of checks.....

Yeah , blame the terrorist ...

    AND ...

if you need a socially accepted excuse for banning anything, just say:

    " It's for the children "

I wonder how much longer it's going to take before we start equating anyone who disagrees with us to being a terrorist. Kind of like we did with communists during the cold war. You know, that guy, he doesn't agree with my horrible right wing agenda. He's must be a communist, and therefore must be stopped to protect us god fearing americans...

It's only a matter of time.
