The Hardest Working Billionaire In Silicon Valley

from the keeping-up-appearances dept

Vinod Khosla has been talked about quite a lot around Silicon Valley with no shortage of opinions. Here’s an article talking about the effort he’s been putting into salvaging the various companies he’s invested in – sometimes (according to plenty of people) going too far. Khosla, of course, is famous for founding Sun and for a number of hugely successful investments as a partner at Kleiner Perkins. He’s apparently extremely proud of his record, and sees each failure as a blight on that record. The article tells a few stories about his recent attempts to save companies, that involves all sorts of tricky dealings – spinning off parts, combining them with other companies in his portfolio, “horse trading” with othe companies to get deals to go through, and rapidly changing business models to find something (anything) that works. Definitely an interesting read into some of what happens behind the scenes these days at some startups.
