Monitoring Instant Messaging At Work

from the watch-what-you-say... dept

It seems that monitoring instant messaging at work is becoming much more popular. Many companies are putting in technology to watch what their employees are chatting about. In some cases, they’re just archiving everything “just in case”, but in others they do active keyword searching. This, of course, has brought up some privacy issues. I still think that companies that show they trust their employees tend to have harder working employees. If an employee isn’t getting his or her job done because they’re always yakking on IM, there are ways to determine that without monitoring their IM traffic.
