U.S. Not Dying For Wireless (Or Maybe They Are…)
from the doing-just-fine-watching,-thanks dept
With all the hype about how the US is missing out on the wireless revolution, the NY Times points out that we might not be missing very much. Yes, people buy cans of soda via their cell phones in Helsinki. Yes, in Korea you can follow your ovulation cycles. But, is anyone making any money? Many U.S. firms are willing to wait and see what happens. They’re trying not to get drawn in on the same sort of hype that is destroying dot coms left and right. Of course, that didn’t stop them from spending billions of dollars on spectrum, but I guess old habits die hard.

Money?
Why does everything have to come down to making money? Maybe wireless is a good idea on its own without the possibility of making obscene profits out of it? Maybe it has real social usefulness that means profit is irrelevant?
Re: Money?
If it’s valuable to society then some one should be willing to pay for it (after all that’s currently how we differentiate between good things, i.e. services from bad ones which go bust!).
