Iraq Buying Up PlayStation 2s

from the that's-where-they-all-went dept

Wondering why you can’t buy a PlayStation 2 anywhere? Apparently, Iraq is buying up as many as they can get. The theory is that Iraq is building some sort of PlayStation 2 based supercomputer with special military software. The computing power of the device is substantial, and since it’s a gaming device it doesn’t fall under the embargo of other computers. This sounds like the plot of a really bad spy movie. Personally, I’m more willing to believe the Register’s take on the whole matter. The unnamed source is more likely to be a Sony marketing person among other things. The article certainly does read like a supermarket tabloid.
