Sprint Offers Up Prepaid Internet Access Cards

from the well,-that's-useless dept

Sprint is trying to be innovative by selling prepaid internet access cards that will let you log into the internet for a set amount of time from any computer. This seems like an interesting idea until you actually think about it. Then you realize the many reasons (mostly covered in the article) why this is a silly idea. The only times this would be useful is on a computer that doesn’t have internet access, and most of those don’t seem to want internet access. It makes for a nice announcement from Sprint, though. I’m sure some mid-level marketing manager is very proud.

Prepaid Internet

I read your comments regarding Sprints prepaid internet access. While I agree with you that their model won’t work, I do not agree that:”The only times this would be useful is on a computer that doesn’t have internet access, and most of those don’t seem to want internet access prepaid internet”.

It never ceases to amaze me that I am hearing the same thing I heard in 1992 regarding Prepaid Calling cards, which is now a $6.5 billion dollar a year industry. There is actually a whole world that you seem to be missing that wnat privacy, limited access, deal in cash, etc, etc. Try thinking about it!
