The Blogging Revolution?

from the calm-down-now dept

Andrew Sullivan has let blogging success go to his head. He’s now written a short article for Wired Magazine suggesting that blogging is going to revolutionize the publishing world. It’s a nice thought, but I think he’s getting a little ahead of himself, due to the success of his own weblog. I think it’s a very useful tool, and people will come up with more and more creative ways to use it – but everyone who thinks it’s going to replace some aspect of publishing or reporting is getting ahead of themselves. I think Sullivan is overreacting in the opposite direction just as much as all those scared news articles from major news sources saying “blogging is just a fad”. It’s neither a fad nor a revolution. It’s a useful tool, that works well because it fits in on top of traditional publishing.
