A Referee For UWB

While the two different UWB standards fight it out in the marketplace, one company has decided to offer up a referee of sorts, that would let the two standards coexist without destroying each other. This doesn’t get us any closer to a single standard, but would allow some efforts to move forward, without worrying about interference problems from the other kind of UWB. The company, PulseLink, says they just want to make sure everything plays nice. Of course, there’s still the hurdle of getting both UWB camps to accept this proposal and to add the technology to their offerings (no small task). It also doesn’t address the main problem: the two standards-in-waiting won’t work together, which is the main thing that will hold back adoption.
