For the past month, we’ve been running our fundraising drive to support Techdirt’s reporting as we move into this new year — a year we believe is going to need our uncompromising coverage more than ever. Now that drive is coming to a close: today is the last day that you can get your hands on our very first Techdirt Commemorative Coin, celebrating 30 years of Section 230, by supporting us with $100 or more.

- Techdirt Doesn’t Annoy You Into Paying, And That’s Worth Paying For: some thoughts on our business model here at Techdirt, where we steer clear of paywalls and registration walls and annoying algorithmic ads, and why that means we need direct reader support more than ever.

Too bad you did not enable guest checkout when setting up the link. I am unable to make a donation without creating a PayPal account – which I will NEVER do. I don’t trust ANYONE to store my credit card data safely.

Hi John – sorry if there was any confusion in the checkout process, but you definitely don’t need to create a PayPal account! In your cart you should see two checkout buttons, the second one is for PayPal but the first one (the regular checkout button) will allow you to proceed without creating any kind of account

Sorry, but that is not true. There are three payment methods: Pay with a card setup with Link (also not going to do that), Pay with Paypal, and pay with bitcoin. After completing the form on Pay with Paypal, the ONLY option is to ‘Create Account & Pay Now’. There is no option to pay without creating a paypal account. Perhaps try it yourself and then you can walk me through the process?’

While the last thing I need is a new shiny to put somewhere (although I do think the coin is snazzy), I’ve been reading Techdirt for years and signed up for a monthly contribution. Thanks for everything you do.
