Gawker was *not* Innocent

I’m sorry, but any time people gloss over what Gawker actually did to find themselves in court, and what they said during the court proceedings, I can’t help but groan.

Gawker posted a sex tape without consent and refused to take it down after a court order was given to take it down. One of the guys from Gawker said some vile shit on the stand about how they’d be fine running tapes of a minor. Gawker as a company kept leaning on the idea that nobody had enough cash or energy to take a case to its full conclusion to stop their tabloid bullshit.

Journalists and 1A advocates choosing Gawker as a Freedom Of The Press hill to plant their flag on is constantly baffling and disappointing.

Re: Re:

Gawker showed the whole footage of a stolen sex tape without the consent of those in it. They defied a court order to take it down. They played fast and loose as press shock jocks and got burned for it. I think the world is a better place without Gawker, and I can think that while also hating Peter Thiel and everything else he’s done.
