from the good-deals-on-cool-stuff dept
An emergency radio is an absolute must have for any emergency situation, especially in the event of a natural disaster. This handy lightweight Emergency Multi-Function Radio And Flashlight will catch the NOAA weather broadcast 24 hours/day, and is self-sufficient if it needs to be, drawing power from solar panels or a built-in hand crank so you’ll never have to worry about it running out of power. It includes an LED flashlight and an on board battery as well to help you charge your other devices. It is on sale for $19 for a limited time.

I bought this model of radio/flashlight a couple of years ago and stowed it in my hiking backpack. It worked well enough for about a year, but then I noticed that its on-switch could be triggered easily by items shifting around it. If it’s left that way, the battery will drain, and neither the solar cells nor the crank will charge it sufficiently. You can plug it into a larger power source to recharge from this state, but the battery never seems quite as reliable after that.
