US based I believe. I use PIA and am pretty happy with it. Occasionally their servers get blocked by Waze routing servers (and other such vanilla sites) but likely that’s normal with any decent volume VPN.

Speeds are more than adequate for browsing, torrenting or whatever you want to do.

If you used a VPN from somewhere without a vigorous legal system, you can’t really trust what your VPN provider is doing with your data.

don't waste your money -- lots of better services out there

I tried PIA for a year and found that my email didn’t work when I was connected to it. My ISP didn’t even see a connection. PIA was no help, so I used it less often.

When it expired, I decided to spend less for another service — TorGuard — and it ‘just works’.

I don’t know why Lifehacker and Techdirt love this service. I wasted $50 for a year of next to nothing.

Chances are your ISP was filtering SMTP from PIA’s address space.

I am on my 4th year of using PIA for everything. I had previously used TorGuard and left them because they didn’t make it easy to purchase anonymously (PIA takes giftcards from a whole bunch of retailers which you can buy with cash in store). I like PIA because I can easily switch between thousands of exit nodes and its got tons of bandwidth (I have a gigabit ISP).

PIA’s no-logging policy stood up to an FBI subpoena.
